PALO ALTO, Calif. — Aisle411, a mobile retail navigation service, on Tuesday announced that its virtual mapping and navigation smartphone application is available to use in all of Walgreens' 7,907 drug stores nationwide.

With Aisle411's in-store mapping platform, customers can use their smartphones to view maps of any Walgreens store, allowing shoppers to locate products down to a particular section of each aisle. Walgreens is the first national retailer with all of its stores mapped in a mobile application, Aisle411 stated.

"Vitacost customers are very passionate about their health and wellness products," Vitacost chief marketing officer David Zucker said. "Our new Moovweb-powered mobile site unleashes the power of social media to help our customers spread the word about their favorite products, as well as easily access recommendations for new products."

PARIS — It seems that shoppers worldwide expect a seamless integration across online, social media, mobile and physical stores, according to a new global report released by Capgemini.

"Digital Shopper Relevancy," which surveyed 16,000 digital shoppers across 16 developing and mature markets, found that 60% of respondents said they expect the convergence of retail channels by 2014, while more than half of those surveyed said most retailers currently are inconsistent in the way they present themselves across channels.

Remember when retail transactions were completed based only on the assortment found within the confines of a brick-and-mortar store? Truth is, we may never return to those days.

I’ve heard arguments that as a result of retail choices, formats and virtual storefronts, consumers will no longer establish relationships with retailers. As a result, loyalty will be lost.

Honestly, I disagree. Multi-channel retailing not only has the potential to enhance the shopping experience, but also the ability to strengthen relationships with patrons.

A recent Nielsen survey revealed that in-store behaviors exhibited by U.S. smartphone owners who use their devices while shopping vary by store type.

NEW YORK — A recent Nielsen survey revealed that in-store behaviors exhibited by U.S. smartphone owners who use their devices while shopping vary by store type.

Nielsen found that such behaviors as mobile couponing (either using or requesting a coupon) were most popular at grocery stores (41% of mobile shoppers reported using coupons there), department stores (41%) and clothing stores (39%), compared with other retail outlets — such as electronic stores, mass merchandisers, office supply stores, convenience stores, furniture stores and dollar stores.

NEW YORK — Are smartphone applications the magic bullet of marketing for retailers? According to a December 2011 ABI Research survey of U.S. consumers, it may be so.

Survey respondents who said they had downloaded a retailer-branded app said the app caused them to visit the store more (45.8%), buy more of the store/brand’s products and services (40.4%), tell a friend about their store shopping experience (35.8%) and encourage friends to visit the store (30.8%).

With a growth rate more than four times that of the entire country and an expected 2015 purchasing power well in excess of $1.25 trillion, the U.S. Hispanic population is one of the most important consumer segments for CPG and food and beverage companies.
