You can’t be all things to all people, but you can be all things to one person. That’s the opportunity Giant Eagle is grabbing with the number of ways the Pittsburgh food-and-pharmacy retailer interacts with patients. 


“Our goal is to help those within our communities live healthier, longer lives,” Dan Donovan, Giant Eagle spokesman, told Drug Store News. “We look to do this in a number of ways … [through] initiatives, such as our health and beauty care business, in-store retail health clinics and our group of skilled dietitians.”

Counterfeit drugs are a problem that won’t go away. In a recent segment on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Sanjay Gupta explored the dark underworld of drug counterfeiting. While covering the bust of a counterfeiting operation in Lima, Peru, Gupta ­— himself a doctor — said he couldn’t tell the drugs were fake. But luckily, several technologies have been developed in recent years that allow quick detection of counterfeits. One company developing such a technology is Mobile Data Systems.

CHICAGO — A new limited-edition beer is helping consumers get ready for summer.

Low-calorie brand MGD 64 is serving up MGD 64 Lemonade, a 64-calorie beer that combines a light, crisp draft beer taste with the tangy taste of lemonade. Available in six-pack bottles and 12-pack bottles and cans, MGD 64 Lemonade will be available from May through Labor Day at retailers nationwide.

MGD 64, part of the Miller Geniune Draft line of products, launched nationally in 2008.

The company said that its generic versions of Frontline Plus, FiproGuard Plus and Pronyl OTC Plus will hit retail in May, providing pet owners with a lower-cost option to keep pets healthy.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is selling whooping cough vaccines to parents in California at a reduced price, the retailer said Thursday.

As of July 1, a new state law will require proof of vaccination for all students entering grades 7 through 12, and nearly all of the retail pharmacy chain’s 600 stores in California will be able to vaccinate walk-in patients or by appointment. The reduced-price vaccine will sell for $57.99.

Weaver's Weaver Gold line comes in movie theater butter and parmesan with Italian herbs and garlic flavors. Each flavor provides the health benefits of olive oil, the company said. The company also is slated to introduce light butter and classic butter flavors.

New Weaver Gold microwave popcorn made with olive oil now is available at mass market retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com.
