NEW YORK — Patients who use retail-based health clinics are satisfied with their visit, according to the findings of a new Kalorama Information report.

The healthcare market research publisher, which is a division of MarketResearch.com, has been covering retail clinics for six years and conducted a survey of U.S. adults to determine retail clinic use and satisfaction. According to the Retail Clinics: Consumer Attitudes Results of the 2013 Kalorama Survey, 91% of those surveyed who had used a retail clinic were either satisfied or very satisfied.

Fruth Pharmacy is opening its second store in the town of Ironton, Ohio, and 27th overall, the retail pharmacy chain said.

IRONTON, Ohio — Fruth Pharmacy is opening its second store in the town of Ironton, Ohio, the retail pharmacy chain said Friday.

The store, the 27th in the Point Pleasant, W.Va.-based chain, was formerly Staley's Pharmacy, an independent drug store. Owner Jim Staley, considering retirement, sold the store to Fruth. All the store's employees, including Staley and his sister, were offered positions, and most stayed, Fruth said. The chain also recently opened its 26th store in Ironton.

It also has a $40 price tag, which is higher than most drug store products, and which also earns it security devices like Lucite keepers and spiders in some stores.

Empty shelves at Walmart are getting a lot of attention these days, but the situation isn’t new and can’t be blamed entirely on store staffing levels.

Reports in Bloomberg and The New York Times have both detailed Walmart’s shortcoming when it comes to keeping products on shelves. And both reached the same conclusion that the issue is related to a reduction in staffing levels. It is a convenient and easily understood explanation because if there are fewer associates working there is less time available to perform the essential functions of running a retail business, namely keeping shelves stocked and accepting payment from customers.

Same-store sales at Rite Aid decreased 2% in March, including a 3.8% increase in same-store sales on the front end and a 4.5% decrease in pharmacy sales due in part to new introductions of generic drugs, the retail pharmacy chain said.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Same-store sales at Rite Aid decreased 2% in March, including a 3.8% increase in same-store sales on the front end and a 4.5% decrease in pharmacy sales due in part to new introductions of generic drugs, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

The 4,621-store chain reported total sales for the month of $1.939 billion, a 2.5% decrease compared with $1.989 billion in March 2012, while same-store prescription count increased 0.3%.

SAN FRANCISCO — More than half of Americans shop and spend money to improve their moods, according to a new survey.

The study, by Ebates.com, found that 63.9% of women engage in "retail therapy," compared with 39.8% of men, and the belief that it improves moods was found among 39.2% of women, compared with 20.6% of men. The survey was conducted online by TNS Global and included 1,000 adults.

Google has officially unveiled its testing program for Google Shopping Express, its new online delivery service in the San Francisco Bay area, signing up with retailers like Target, Walgreens and Raley's to allow customers to receive items directly from store shelves at their homes within a day.

The program has been widely described as an effort by Google to compete with e-commerce giant Amazon, but what sets Google Shopping Express apart is its sourcing partnership with brick-and-mortar retailers, particularly Target, which itself has made significant investments in omnichannel retail, most recently with its purchases of two online cooking-equipment retailers. As a whole slew of developments over the past couple of weeks has shown, omnichannel is becoming a key component of many retailers' business.
