COLUMBUS, Ohio — Walgreens' e-commerce president Sona Chawla has been appointed to serve on the board of directors at specialty retail apparel chain Express.

Chawla, who will serve as a class-3 director and brings the number of directors on Express' board to seven, also will serve on the Express' compensation and governance committee. Chawla has lead Walgreens' e-commerce business since January 2011. Prior to her role at Walgreens, she served in roles at Dell and Wells Fargo.

WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association has a new president-elect, the group said Thursday.

The APhA announced the election of Matthew Osterhaus, who will succeed Steven Simenson at the conclusion of the 2014 APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, Fla., on March 31, 2014. Osterhaus is the co-owner of Osterhaus Pharmacy in Maquoketa, Iowa, and an APhA trustee.

NEW YORK — Coty CEO Bernd Beetz is retiring from the beauty company, effective Aug. 1, and will be succeeded by Michele Scannavini, who has been president of Coty Prestige for the past decade.

Beetz will remain on the Coty board as a nonexecutive director. In this role he will continue to share his experience and contribute to a smooth leadership transition supporting Scannavini.

SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. — Yankee Candle has appointed Brad Wolansky to serve in the newly created role of president of direct and chief marketing officer.

OAK BROOK, Ill. — A leading provider of advanced medication management and technology services to the long-term care industry has promoted its president.

Millennium Pharmacy Systems said Philip Keough has been appointed CEO, as well as a member of its board of directors. Keough joined Millennium Pharmacy Systems as COO in November 2010 and continued to take on increasing responsibilities at the company.

Millennium also confirmed that its former CEO, Richard Scardina, will continue in an active role with the company as its chairman of the board.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The doctor of pharmacy program at Marshall University has received a preliminary accreditation status that the university said was a step toward full accreditation.

Marshall president Stephen Kopp said Wednesday the program had received precandidate accreditation status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education's board of directors.

WASHINGTON — A bill passed in the Senate will provide measures to speed up the development of treatments for people who desperately need them.

The Senate voted Tuesday to pass S. 3187, the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act, which now awaits President Barack Obama's signature. The House approved a similar bill last week.
