As the city of Boulder, Colo., continues to clean up from last weekend's record-setting rainfall and subsequent flooding, pharmacists and employees of Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy made it into work to maintain continuity of prescription medicines for area residents.

A total of 14.62 inches of rain fell from the afternoon of Sept. 9 through Sept. 13 in Colorado. Boulder was one of the hardest areas hit by the storm.

Bi-Lo Holdings announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement with Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. to acquire 22 Piggly Wiggly stores with approximately 1,200 store employees in South Carolina and coastal Georgia.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bi-Lo Holdings on Thursday announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement with Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. to acquire 22 Piggly Wiggly stores with approximately 1,200 store employees in South Carolina and coastal Georgia.  

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Walgreens announced its acquisition of Kerr Drug, a privately-held regional pharmacy chain in North Carolina, to include both Kerr's retail drug stores and specialty pharmacy business.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Tuesday announced its acquisition of Kerr Drug, a privately-held regional pharmacy chain in North Carolina, to include both Kerr's retail drug stores and specialty pharmacy business.  

In fiscal year 2012, Kerr Drug’s retail drug stores and specialty pharmacy business recorded total sales of $381 million.

The retail industry added 43,600 jobs last month, particularly in general merchandise, electronics and clothing, according to an industry trade group.

WASHINGTON — The retail industry added 43,600 jobs last month, particularly in general merchandise, electronics and clothing, according to an industry trade group.

The numbers were based on calculations from the National Retail Federation, out of a total 169,000 jobs that the Bureau of Labor Statistics said the economy added in August, bringing the country's unemployment rate down to 7.3%.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — AmerisourceBergen and Walgreens on Tuesday officially launched the previously announced 10-year relationship to distribute pharmaceuticals to more than 8,100 Walgreens locations across the country. With today’s launch, AmerisourceBergen becomes the primary supplier of brand pharmaceutical products across all of Walgreens locations, the wholesaler stated. In the coming months, AmerisourceBergen will assume primary distribution of all generic products to Walgreens.

The collaboration between Community Health Network and Walgreens' Healthcare Clinic is officially underway as of last week, the companies announced. It's just one manifestation of how retail clinics and the pharmacies that house them will contribute to making health care more cost-efficient in the years ahead through coordinated care vetted by improved outcomes.

In fact, 2014 will be the year of the retail clinic. The collaboration dovetails nicely with Walgreens' plans to significantly expand the scope of care found at Healthcare Clinic that president and CEO Greg Wasson talked about at the company's last quarterly conference call. "These new services include diagnosis, treatment and management for hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and asthma, as well as additional preventive health services," he said.
