Walgreens recently fine-tuned its merchandising leadership structure, announcing a few key changes in the lineup.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens recently fine-tuned its merchandising leadership structure, most notably elevating Jim Jensen to VP daily living implementation and space planning, where he will be looking at maximizing merchandising initiatives against space optimization in the stores. Moe Alkemade will assume the role of general merchandise manager handling seasonal, sundries and consumables; and Beth Stiller has been named group VP retail brands and global sourcing. 

All appointments are effective Nov. 4.

Walgreens introduced several updates to its mobile app, most notably the ability to print from Instagram, as well as upload more than five pictures simultaneously for in-store prints.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Monday introduced several updates to its mobile app, most notably the ability to print from Instagram, as well as upload more than five pictures simultaneously for in-store prints. 

“We know that many people enjoy customizing their photos to reflect the uniqueness of each shot,” stated Jasbir Patel, senior director and general merchandise manager, photo and e-commerce, Walgreens. “Aligning our QuickPrints technology to Instagram helps our customers make those digital images come to life in print form.”

Shopko announced that a former JCPenney executive has joined the company.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Shopko announced that a former JCPenney executive has joined the company.

Shopko said Craig Gourley will serve as its new SVP and general merchandise manager of home and hardlines. Gourley will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of merchandising for the home division, including developing strategies, negotiation of vendor partnerships and managing the buying team. He will report to EVP and chief merchandising officer Jill Soltau.

New board members are Mike Byron, president of supplier diversity for Supervalu; Sarah Chartrand, SVP diversity, talent management and organizational development for Ahold USA; Marnette Perry, SVP Kroger; Suzanne Sears, VP global market development at Kimberly-Clark; and Karen Stuckey, SVP merchandising and general merchandise manager of the home division for Walmart Stores.

Walgreens on Wednesday promoted Mike Spear to divisional merchandise manager of the retailer’s personal care division and announced that Lauren Vondrasek is transitioning to the company’s beauty merchandising unit, which is headed by Barbara Larson.

Spear has more than 20 years of retail experience, most recently as director of category planning at Walgreens.
