ITASCA, Ill. — Jewel-Osco has announced that Scott Hays has been named VP operations for the Chicagoland grocery store. 

Most recently a district manager with Albertsons LLC’s Southern division, Hays will lead the operations team to support Jewel-Osco’s marketing and merchandising initiatives, including the company’s upcoming remodels and opening their five newly acquired Dominick’s locations.

Walgreens helped create a new, larger worksite health organization when it sold a majority interest in Take Care Employer Solutions to strategic health investor Water Street Healthcare Partners. The new entity, which combines Take Care with CHS Health Services, will serve more than 200 leading corporations through nearly 500 worksite health-and-wellness centers across the country. Walgreens still maintains a significant stake in the company and will continue to manage their existing worksite clinics in collaboration with the new company.

The end result will be an opportunity to couple best practices into an entity with a greater economy of scale that's part of a business model with a lot of upside. The vast majority of large employers remain committed to providing benefits to active employees, according to a recent survey by Towers Watson and the National Business Group on Health — an association of large employers — released in March. Offering health insurance as an employee benefit is something the majority of small businesses think is very important, too, according to the 2014 Small Business Health Care Survey from the National Small Business Association — 91% of firms fielding between 20 and 50 employees and 94% of businesses with more than 50 employees believe health benefits are crucial to employee recruitment and retention.

SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets on Wednesday announced the promotion of Brian Bosworth to director of center store sales; Maria Panko to senior manager private brands and specialty, organic, natural and ethnic foods; and John Evans to center store sales manager.

As director of center store sales, Bosworth is responsible for sales, merchandising and procurement. In his new role, he will oversee a team of center store category managers. In 2011, he joined the company as a category manager and worked as a center store sales manager prior to his promotion.

A recent audience-research study conducted by Nielsen found that among Cardinal Health's digital advertising network for retail pharmacies, called Pharmacy Health Network, half of viewers surveyed (49%) indicated that they felt encouraged to discuss a product or brand they had seen on Pharmacy Health Network with their pharmacist, and 48% indicated that after seeing ads on Pharmacy Health Network, they felt motivated to discuss those products or brands with their physicians.

NEW YORK — Pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts hopes to drive down the cost of new drugs to treat hepatitis C by pitting their manufacturers against each other, according to published reports.

Bloomberg News reported that ESI would pit companies like Gilead Sciences against others such as AbbVie when the new treatments become available in 2014 or 2015. The Food and Drug Administration announced last week the approval of Gilead's new drug, Sovaldi (sofosbuvir), which is designed to cut by three quarters the time needed for treatment.
