SOLON, Ohio — ECRM announced that a state-of-the-art center will be built in honor of its late leader Charlie Bowlus.

The Charlie Bowlus Technology and Innovation Center, which currently is under construction, is being built in a public charter school in Cleveland and is set to open this fall in the Cleveland Public School District, ECRM president Mitch Bowlus said, who will fund 100% of the costs for this center.

WASHINGTON — Women take mental health drugs at a much higher rate than men, according to a new study by one of the country's largest pharmacy benefit managers.

Medco Health Solutions released results of the study Monday, showing that 25% of women use psychotropic drugs, compared with 15% of men. The study was based on the pharmacy claims of more than 2 million Americans and measured the use of drugs for treating depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and psychotic disorders between 2001 and 2010.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Friday said that the leader of its Vons division will retire after serving in the role for more than 10 years.

Tom Keller will retire from his post as president of Vons, a position he has held since 1999, on Feb. 1. An industry veteran that started his career as a food clerk in Safeway's Phoenix division more than 40 years ago, Keller "leaves an important imprint on the organization as an energetic and innovative leader," Safeway chairman, president and CEO Steve Burd said.

NEW YORK — Trilantic Capital Partners, a global private equity firm, on Tuesday announced that it has partnered with management to acquire Implus, a leader in the footwear, outdoor and fitness accessories markets. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

NEW YORK — Global information services company Nielsen announced the passing of one of its former executives.

Arthur C. "Art" Nielsen, Jr., 92, helped Nielsen create such innovations as consumer and performance surveys, market share, department and food index and television ratings, during his tenure as chairman and president. Nielsen's father, Arthur C. Nielsen, founded the company in 1923. Nielsen, Jr., joined the company in 1945 and retired in 1983, according to the New York Times.

DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford Motor on Wednesday announced its research partnership with WellDoc — a healthcare company that develops technology solutions to improve chronic disease management outcomes and reduce healthcare costs — around integrating WellDoc services into Ford vehicles through the automaker’s SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity system.

That SYNC system also will enable access to SDI’s Pollen.com Allergy Alert application, Ford announced Wednesday.

FLINT, Mich. — Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy president and CEO Phil Hagerman has been named the Grant Thornton Leader & Innovator of the Year, Diplomat said Friday.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Daiichi Sankyo's SVP commercial operations has taken on a new role at the company.

The drug maker said that John Gargiulo would become president and CEO, effective Monday, following the retirement of current leader Joseph Pieroni.

Gargiulo has been with Daiichi Sankyo since its inception in 1996. In addition to his role at the company, he currently serves on the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association, as well as the National Pharmaceutical Council.

NEW YORK — The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index rose to more than 4% during the month of February, thanks to slight improvements in two sectors.

The index attempts to track consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending and is comprised of four components: unemployment claims, tax burden, real wages and real home prices. It rose to 4.02% from 3.92% in January.
