EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Supervalu recently received multiple national honors for its sustainability efforts, the retailer announced Tuesday. First, the company is featured in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s 2012 “Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index,” which honors companies for both environmental performance and transparency in this area. Supervalu received the highest score among national grocery retailers in this report.

Delhaize's U.S. division has a new leader.

BRUSSELS — Delhaize's U.S. division has a new leader.

The supermarket conglomerate announced that Roland Smith will serve as Delhaize America's president and CEO, as well as EVP of the Delhaize Group, effective Oct. 15. Smith is replacing Ronald Hodge, who will be retiring from his post this year. Hodge will serve in an advisory role to ensure a smooth transition.

PURCHASE, N.Y. — PepsiCo announced it has elected the former leader of 3M to its board of directors.

The company said Sir George Buckley, who currently serves as chairman of private equity firm Arle Capital LLP, will join the board and audit committee on Sept. 19. Prior to his role at Arle Capital, Buckley served as chairman, president and CEO of 3M.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy has announced the launch of a new in-store fundraising campaign, named Advancing Medical Research, to support medical research and help improve the quality of life for those living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and cystic fibrosis.
 
Funds raised through the campaign will benefit the ALS Therapy Alliance, an organization dedicated to advancing ALS research, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Supporters for the 2012 campaign can donate $1 or $3 at the register in CVS/pharmacy locations and online through June 30.

WASHINGTON — The National Retail Federation has named Bill Thorne SVP communications and public affairs. He will join NRF on June 1 to oversee the organization's industry and public affairs communications strategy, including NRF's "Retail Means Jobs" campaign, a multimillion dollar initiative to demonstrate the power of retail to America’s economy and the career opportunities within the industry.

Thorne currently serves as senior director of community affairs at Walmart.
