Procter & Gamble's Head & Shoulders has tapped Alyson Hannigan, star of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" and "American Pie," to be the brand's female ambassador. Hannigan will appear in a campaign targeting female consumers starting this month.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble's Head & Shoulders has tapped Alyson Hannigan, star of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" and "American Pie," to be the brand's female ambassador. Hannigan will appear in a campaign targeting female consumers starting this month.

Hannigan joins Head & Shoulders hair legends, including two-time Super Bowl champion Troy Polamalu, and Minnesota Twins All-Star catcher Joe Mauer.

Merck KGaA division Merck Serono has appointed Belen Garijo as COO and Annalisa Jenkins as global head of drug development and medical, effective Sept. 5.

DARMSTADT, Germany — Merck KGaA division Merck Serono has appointed Belen Garijo as COO and Annalisa Jenkins as global head of drug development and medical, effective Sept. 5.

The company, which operates under the name "EMD" in the United States and is a separate company from U.S.-based Merck, said Garijo and Jenkins will be based in Geneva and will report to president Stefan Oschmann.

Garijo previously worked for Sanofi, where he was SVP global operations for the European region, while Jenkins was SVP global medical for Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Kroger announced that it has named Michael Donnelly as SVP merchandising. Donnelly has been president of the company's Ralphs division, based in Los Angeles, since August 2007.

CINCINNATI — Kroger announced that it has named Michael Donnelly as SVP merchandising. Donnelly has been president of the company's Ralphs division, based in Los Angeles, since August 2007.

In his new position, Donnelly will lead all merchandising and procurement for Kroger.

NEW YORK — Johnson & Johnson on April 4 will install Pat Mutchler as head of the McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit, according to a Wednesday evening Associated Press report.

According to the report, Johnson & Johnson said the changes will allow the company to "give focused attention to quality and compliance, and the critical task of restoring McNeil Consumer Healthcare brands."

The former head of a now defunct pharmacy chain has died, according to published reports.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The former head of a now defunct pharmacy chain has died, according to published reports.

Rick Keltsch, who led the Keltsch Bros. pharmacy chain as the company's president and CEO until its merger with Scott's Food & Pharmacy — a regional chain that was a subsidiary of Supervalu before being acquired by Kroger in April 2007 — died unexpectedly on Wednesday. He was 64 years old.

Keltsch is survived by his wife Jennie, children and grandchildren.

WASHINGTON — The head of a group representing the nation's pharmacy benefit managers got honors from the Generic Pharmaceutical Association.

The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association announced Thursday that president and CEO Mark Merritt had received the GPhA’s Outstanding Contribution Award at the generic drug industry group’s annual meeting in Orlando, Fla. The organization has advocated increased generic drug utilization and found common cause with the generics industry in its support for follow-on biologics.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble's Head & Shoulders brand has welcomed Minnesota Twins All-Star catcher Joe Mauer as its newest brand ambassador.

The brand ambassador team also includes Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year, Troy Polamalu.

Mauer will be featured in an integrated marketing campaign that will include traditional advertising, public relations, a dedicated Head & Shoulders for Men Facebook fan page, in-store displays at major retailers and a consumer engagement movement set to launch in July.

BASEL, Switzerland — Novartis on Thursday morning named Naomi Kelman head of the Novartis OTC division, effective March 2. She will report directly to Joseph Jimenez, Novartis CEO.

The Novartis OTC and animal health businesses will become separate Novartis divisions, in addition to the pharmaceuticals, Sandoz (generics), vaccines and diagnostics divisions. As previously announced, following the completion of the merger between Novartis and Alcon, CIBA Vision and Novartis ophthalmic medicines will be merged into the new Alcon eye care division of Novartis.

NEW YORK — Sandoz is developing as many as 10 new follow-on biologics, according to published reports.

Reuters, citing an interview with Sandoz head Jeff George in the German newspaper Handelsblatt, said the generics arm of Swiss drug maker Novartis had eight to 10 new biosimilar molecules in development.

INDIANAPOLIS — John Johnson is bidding Eli Lilly adieu.

Johnson, who served as SVP and president of the drug maker's oncology business — whose portfolio includes Alimta (pemetrexed) and Gemzar (gemcitabine hydrochloride) — resigned, effective Jan. 28. Johnson is taking on the chief executive role at specialty biopharmaceutical company Savient, effective Jan. 31. Savient is best known for its chronic gout treatment Krystexxa (pegloticase), which received regulatory approval in September 2010.

PURCHASE, N.Y. — PepsiCo has named a new president for its Quaker Foods and Snacks business.

Jose Luis Prado assumed his role this month as the leader of the business unit, responsible for the continued growth of Quaker-branded products globally. He also leads PepsiCo’s global Baking Center of Excellence, which develops and supports baked projects companywide, PepsiCo said.

Prado joined PepsiCo in 1984 and most recently served as president of Gamesa-Quaker Mexico.

WASHINGTON The head of an organization that accredits pharmacy technicians will serve as president of an international credentialing organization next year.

 

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board announced Thursday that executive director and CEO Melissa Murer Corrigan would serve as the 2011 president of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence and be installed at the ICE Annual Education Conference in Atlanta, which also took place Thursday. ICE provides educational, networking and advocacy resources for credentialing organizations.
