CVS Caremark announced on Friday that former Walmart North executive Hank Mullany will succeed Larry Merlo as president of CVS/pharmacy. The move is part of the corporate succession plan announced last May in which Tom Ryan will retire as CEO prior to the next annual meeting and Merlo will step up as CEO.

Regional specialty pharmacy chain ReCept has appointed several people to new executive positions, the company said Wednesday.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Regional specialty pharmacy chain ReCept has appointed several people to new executive positions, the company said Wednesday.

ReCept, which owns 15 stores in Texas and specializes in compounding pharmacy services for people with such conditions as HIV/AIDS and cancer, announced the appointments of Nicky Otts as chairman and CEO, Carmine DeNardo as president and COO, Rob Jarvis as EVP sales and chief marketing officer, Jeff Brumbaugh as chief information officer and Stephanie Romero as VP finance.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. A drug maker has named a former executive at Tengion to the newly created post of SVP quality.

Hospira said Francois Dubois would be responsible for the global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company's global quality systems, and will serve as a member of Hospira's senior leadership team. Dubois will report directly to Christopher Begley, Hospira's chairman and CEO.

DENVER — One of the nation's largest brewing companies has appointed a new member to serve on its board of directors.

Brian Goldner, president and CEO of Hasbro, joined Molson Coors' board, effective immediately. Goldner is the ninth independent director following a search to replace Pam Patsley, who stepped down as a director in December 2009. The Molson Coors board of directors is comprised of 14 directors.

ROGERS, Ark. Former Walmart executive Jack Shewmaker passed away Wednesday evening. He was 72.

 

Shewmaker began his career at Walmart in 1970 and rose steadily through the ranks of the company, serving in numerous capacities, including district manager; VP security (now known as loss prevention); VP store operations; EVP store operations, personnel and merchandise; CFO; and president and COO. Shewmaker retired from the company in1988, but continued as a member of Walmart’s board of directors.

PURCHASE, N.Y. — A former Wyeth executive has been named PepsiCo's EVP global corporate affairs.

Tim Cost, who will report to PepsiCo chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi, officially will join the company Dec. 1. In the newly created position, Cost will be responsible for strengthening and protecting PepsiCo's corporate reputation and strategically aligning its communications, public policy, foundation, investor relations, global health and agricultural policy, and regulatory agendas.

NEW YORK Loss of patent protection for branded drugs and subsequent competition from generics could save the U.S. healthcare system $70 billion or more over the next four years, according to published reports.

 

Reuters reported IMS Health SVP Murray Aitken as saying at the Reuters Health Summit that generics also would increase their dominance in terms of prescriptions dispensed, increasing from 77% during the first half of this year to perhaps 85% by 2014.

The independent pharmacy group tapped the new slate of leaders at its 112th Annual Convention and Trade Exposition, held Oct. 23 to 27 in Philadelphia.

The company announced the appointment of Brahim Zabeli as VP diabetes care for the U.S. market. In the new role, Zabeli will manage commercial activity, including sales, marketing and customer service.

Campbell Soup Co.'s chief executive is retiring at the end of the company's fiscal year....

CAMDEN, N.J. Campbell Soup Co.'s chief executive is retiring at the end of the company's fiscal year.

 

Doug Conant will step down from his role as president and CEO, a position he has held since 2001, on July 31, 2011, the company said Tuesday. Campbell's board of directors appointed EVP and COO Denise Morrison to lead the company at the beginning of fiscal 2012. Morrison also has been elected a director of the company as of Oct. 1.
