McCormack previously worked as a government affairs associate for Malady & Wooten in Harrisburg, Pa., where she represented the Pennsylvania Association of Chain Drug Stores. She also served as a member of the senior staff for the Democratic Leader in the Pennsylvania Senate.

Food Lion announced Friday that it would add more of its MVP savings center kiosks to help customers save on their grocery bills.

SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion announced Friday that it would add more of its MVP savings center kiosks to help customers save on their grocery bills.

MVP savings center kiosks, which are part of Food Lion's MVP customer loyalty card program, were introduced in stores last year. Since their introduction, kiosk coupons have up to five times the redemption rate when compared with coupons delivered via traditional distribution channels, Food Lion said.

Money-saving coupon kiosks also can be found at Bloom and at Harveys.

CHICAGO — Walgreens last month promoted Mia Scholz from corporate VP accounting and controller to SVP accounting and controller.

Scholz joined Walgreens in 1999 as director of internal audit. She was named a divisional VP in 2003, and was promoted to corporate VP accounting and controller in 2007.

Before joining Walgreens, Scholz was a senior manager for Arthur Andersen LLP in Chicago. She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1988.

According to the report, “Gaining Market Share in the Generic Drug Industry Through Acquisitions and Partnerships,” generic drug makers face competition, as well as government-mandated price cuts in Europe and such policies as lowest-price tendering. As a result, many could seek deals that would cause them to diversify their portfolios.

NEW YORK — A multicultural study that will appear in the March issue of the Journal of Renal Care underscored the relationship between kidney disease and diabetes, and the need for greater awareness of this link.

In this small study, 23 South Asian diabetes patients and 25 white diabetes patients between the ages of 34 years and 79 years — with an average age of just older than 70 years — were surveyed to note any differences in the experiences, knowledge and attitudes of the two groups.

ATLANTA — Nearly 26 million Americans have diabetes, according to new estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Wednesday.

In addition, an estimated 79 million U.S. adults have prediabetes, a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.

Pharmacists who intervene with diabetes patients are having a clear and positive impact on clinical outcomes, a new study from Walgreens found.


In a presentation last month, two Walgreens healthcare leaders unveiled the results of a groundbreaking pilot project on pharmacy-based diabetic care. Walgreens launched the project, called Dimensions, at its worksite pharmacies in 2008.

Slaton, who has more than 27 years of real estate experience, joined Stater Bros. in 1981 as a courtesy clerk at the company’s North Redlands store, and in 1984 moved to the company's headquarters as a real estate analyst.
