South University has appointed a new dean of its pharmacy school, the university announced.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — South University has appointed a new dean of its pharmacy school, the university announced.

Curtis Jones will oversee pharmacy programs for the South University School of Pharmacy in Georgia and South Carolina, reporting to vice chancellor of academic affairs Steven Yoho.

Manchester College has tapped Dave McFadden to serve as the dean of the university's pharmacy school.

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Manchester College has tapped Dave McFadden to serve as the dean of the university's pharmacy school.

McFadden, who has served as interim dean for the past five months, has more than 20 years of higher education leadership experience and has led enrollment, strategic planning and marketing initiatives, as well as the name change to University scheduled for July 1 at Manchester College, the school said.

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Manchester College is looking for a new leader for its pharmacy school, the private university's president said Tuesday.

The school's vice president and founding dean, Philip Medon, has resigned for health-related reasons, prompting the university to launch a nationwide search for a new dean. Medon joined the school last year. The school currently has 23 faculty and offers a four-year professional doctoral program. Classes are set to begin in August 2012.

The School of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California announced on Wednesday that it will double its presence in clinics and medical homes that deliver healthcare services to the uninsured, the poor and the homeless.

LOS ANGELES — The School of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California announced on Wednesday that it will double its presence in clinics and medical homes that deliver healthcare services to the uninsured, the poor and the homeless.

The school began providing clinical pharmacy services in safety-net clinics in 2002 and currently is a key partner with 12 such clinics in Southern California. The new USC Medication Therapy and Safety Initiative aims to increase the school's coverage to 24 clinics and medical homes by 2013.

IRVINE, Calif. — West Coast University's new School of Pharmacy has picked a dean, the school said Wednesday.

The university announced the appointment of Naushad M. Khan Ghilzai as the founding dean of the school, which will be at the university's Los Angeles campus. Ghilzai most recently served as associate dean for faculty at LECOM School of Pharmacy in Erie, Pa., and in Bradenton, Fla.

"If we consume too much calcium without sufficient magnesium, the excess calcium is not utilized correctly and may actually become toxic, causing painful conditions, such as some forms of arthritis, kidney stones, osteoporosis and calcification of the arteries leading to heart attack and cardiovascular disease," Dean said.

The dean of the Kansas University School of Pharmacy has won an award in recognition for service to the elderly, according to published reports.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The dean of the Kansas University School of Pharmacy has won an award in recognition for service to the elderly, according to published reports.

The Lawrence Journal World reported Monday that dean Ken Audus had won the Douglas County Senior Center’s Seaver Award.

BALTIMORE — William Cooper has been promoted to senior associate dean of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, the school announced Tuesday.

Cooper, who has worked at the school since 1999, will continue his duties of general administration and overseeing its $50 million budget, human resources, information technology, multimedia and facilities, and also will oversee entrepreneurial activities while helping bring new resources into the school.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A coming-soon pharmacy school has a new dean, according to published reports.

The Charleston, W.Va., Gazette reported Thursday that Marshall University’s pharmacy school, which has yet to be created, had named Kevin Yingling as its founding dean. The university’s board of governors authorized the school to begin its application process with the American Council for Pharmacy Education to establish the school in October.

PHILADELPHIA and RESTON, Va. — University of the Sciences and Practice Greenhealth announced that they will collaborate to develop and promote sustainability training for pharmacists, pharmacy students and related professionals.

The USciences and PGH partnership includes:

  • Developing a methodology for assessing the effectiveness of sustainability training for pharmacists;

  • Assessing the feasibility of similar course offerings to pharmacy students at USciences; and
