Rite Aid board member Michel Coutu has resigned, effective Wednesday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

NEW YORK — Rite Aid board member Michel Coutu has resigned, effective Wednesday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Coutu's notification follows an announcement by The Jean Coutu Group Tuesday that it had sold 72.5 million Rite Aid shares, reducing its stake in the company to 11.7%.

In addition, board member and former chairman Mary Sammons notified the company Wednesday that she wouldn't seek reelection as a director at its annual shareholder meeting.

Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy CEO Phil Hagerman has joined the board of directors of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy, the group said Tuesday.

TAMPA, Fla. — Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy CEO Phil Hagerman has joined the board of directors of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy, the group said Tuesday.

The NASP also noted that Diplomat had joined it as a founding member. Diplomat is the largest privately-owned specialty pharmacy in the country, with revenues exceeding $1.1 billion in 2012.

The company — which is owned by Palo Alto, Calif.-based strategic equity firm Symphony Technology Group — said former SunGuard Higher Education CFO John Milana has been appointed CFO of the company;  Jonathan Rosan, who had served as general counsel for interactive marketing agency Rosetta, has been named general counsel; and software engineering veteran Nigel Pratt has been named chief technology officer.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Thursday named James Skinner, Walgreens board member since 2005 and recently retired McDonald's CEO, as the new nonexecutive chairman of the board of Walgreens. Skinner will succeed Al McNally, who has served on the Walgreens board since 1999 and as nonexecutive chairman since 2009. McNally will continue serving on the Walgreens board.

The generic drug maker confirmed the resignation of Ilan Leviteh, effective Nov. 14. Leviteh stepped down as a director due to demands on his time relating to obligations to other companies, along with concern over fulfilling the increased time commitments required of the board in light of the recent offer from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries to purchase all of Taro’s issued and outstanding shares not currently held by Sun Pharma.

AVON, Conn. — Rite Aid chairman Mary Sammons has been appointed to Magellan Health Services’ board of directors, Magellan said.

The addition of Sammons increases the number of members on Magellan’s board to nine. Sammons began at Rite Aid as president and COO in 1999, becoming CEO in 2003 and chairman in 2007. The current president and CEO is John Standley.

PURCHASE, N.Y. — PepsiCo has expanded its board of directors with a new member.

Bunge chairman and CEO Alberto Weisser will join Pepsi's board, effective Sept. 14. Bunge is a global food, commodity and agribusiness company.

Weisser's election brings the total number of directors to 13 and the total number of independent outside directors to 12. PepsiCo chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi serves as the company's inside director.
