Kimberly-Clark has announced the appointment of former Kraft Foods executive Michael Hsu as president of North America consumer products, succeeding Robert Abernathy, who announced his intent to retire after more than 30 years with the company.

DALLAS — Kimberly-Clark has announced the appointment of former Kraft Foods executive Michael Hsu as president of North America consumer products, succeeding Robert Abernathy, who announced his intent to retire after more than 30 years with the company. 

Abernathy will remain with K-C through 2013 to oversee the European strategic changes announced last month in K-C's earnings call. Abernathy and Hsu will report to chairman and CEO Thomas Falk.

DALLAS — Kimberly-Clark is expanding its worldwide innovation capabilities with the establishment of a global innovation center that will be based in Bogota, Colombia.

The facility, which is the first of its kind in the region, will develop products using local and regional insights to meet broader consumer needs, Kimberly-Clark said. The facility joins the recently announced global innovation center in Seoul, Korea, along with North American facilities in Neenah, Wis., and Roswell, Ga.

NEW YORK As part of its sustainability efforts, Kimberly-Clark will do a test-run of its Scott Naturals tubeless toilet paper in Northeast Walmart and Sam's Club stores, according to published reports.

The Scott Naturals line, which features bath tissue, towels and napkins made with a significant amount of recycled fiber, was developed in response to consumer demand for environmentally friendly products that didn't sacrifice performance. Last month, Scott Naturals introduced the Smart Flush bag, a device that reduces toilet water use.
