Wegmans has expanded its pharmaceutical services to include the family pet, according a recent blog.

The supermarket pharmacy is advertising the service as a cheaper alternative to the prices paid at the veterinarian for the same canine/feline pharmaceuticals. Using Heartgard Plus Chew as an example, Wegmans noted that the common vet pricing is $50.20. Wegmans sells the same prescription for $44.99 and a generic equivalent for $19.99.

Supermarket chain Wegmans took the time last week to issue a clarification following local news reports: It would not be ending healthcare benefits for its part-time employees. A story in the Buffalo News had a headline, "Wegmans cuts health benefits for part-time workers," that had been misconstrued.

It's no secret why Wegmans β€” which operates 81 stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts β€” is included in Fortune magazine's list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For."

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Wegmans in June will open The Pub at Wegmans, a full service restaurant and bar at their Allentown location, the company announced Thursday. Led by Executive Chef Geno Nosenzo and using the fresh ingredients sold on-site in the store, The Pub at Wegmans will serve an array of dishes that go beyond typical pub standards, as well as cocktails, wines by the bottle or glass and an extensive selection of craft beer.
