Wegmans Food Markets and Walgreens have agreed to settle the lawsuit commenced by Walgreens in November 2010 in which the drug store chain claimed that certain Wegmans logos infringed Walgreens trademarks, the supermarket chain announced Friday.

The School Administrators Association of New York State will present its 2011 Friend of Education Award to Wegmans Food Markets and the Wegman family, the Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer announced Wednesday.

Wegmans raised more than $937,000, an 11.4% increase from last year's efforts, as part of its winter Check Out Hunger campaign that ended Feb. 26, the grocer announced Tuesday.

Check Out Hunger allows shoppers to donate $1, $2, $3, $5 or any other amount at checkout, with 100% of the proceeds going to each store's local food bank.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Escalating food costs may have a firm grip on consumers' wallets, but one retailer is promising "to keep prices low and [its] quality and service high."

Wegmans this week said that it will not change the prices on 40 of the products most important to families through the end of 2011. According to the company's website, many of the items listed include store-brand products and produce. Wegmans also noted that, counting different varieties and sizes, about 200 items are covered by the company's price pledge.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court in December ruled in favor of Wegmans and supermarkets across the state over whether or not the grocers could sell beer on their premises — the ruling expands what many consider to be the most restrictive alcohol distribution laws in the country. 


In Pennsylvania, beer can be purchased only from a restaurant/bar or beer distributor. Beer distributors can sell only by the case or keg, while restaurants and bars cannot sell more than 16 12-oz. beers per purchase.

Probiotics contain live bacteria cultures that can die if exposed to too much heat. Beyond probiotics, many liquid supplements need to be refrigerated to prevent spoiling.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It seems that Wegmans is sprucing up its in-store cafés throughout Pennsylvania with a new pilot program that lets customers have their wine and drink it too.

According to a report by the Morning Call, Wegmans recently added a wine-by-the-glass feature at its Allentown store, where customers can purchase white and red wines with a prepaid card at a cost of $6 to $10 for a 5-oz. glass. Also available are half glasses for half the price, as well as $1 to $2 samples.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans last week announced that its customers boosted hunger relief donations by 12% during the company's 2010 checkout campaign.

Hunger relief contributions at 20 Wegmans stores in New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and eastern Pennsylvania totaled $692,756, a 12% increase above the previous record total raised in 2009.

Wegmans also said that customers in Wegmans’ 22 Rochester, N.Y.-area stores generously contributed in a fall 2010 campaign held earlier in the season, raising $688,214, with all proceeds going to Foodlink in Rochester.
