Walmart U.S. president and CEO Bill Simon and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced at the SelectUSA 2013 Investment Summit on Thursday that three suppliers have made new domestic manufacturing commitments that will create 385 jobs.

WASHINGTON – Walmart U.S. president and CEO Bill Simon and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced at the SelectUSA 2013 Investment Summit on Thursday that three suppliers have made new domestic manufacturing commitments that will create 385 jobs. The move is part of the retailer’s previously announced pledge to buy an additional $50 billion in U.S.-made products over the next decade.

Walmart said that Elan-Polo, Louis Hornick & Company and EveryWare Global will produce footwear, curtains and glassware, respectively.

Health insurer WellPoint said Tuesday that most of its affiliated Medicare drug plans and medical plans with drug coverage will participate in a preferred pharmacy network that includes Rite Aid, Kroger and Walmart pharmacies.

INDIANAPOLIS — Health insurer WellPoint said Tuesday that most of its affiliated Medicare drug plans and medical plans with drug coverage will participate in a preferred pharmacy network that includes Rite Aid, Kroger and Walmart pharmacies.

Together, WellPoint said, members had access to more than 11,000 locations around the country. The preferred pharmacy network is part of all of WellPoint's affiliated Part D standalone prescription drug plans and most of its Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans.

Ahold USA said Hucker was leaving to pursue another opportunity. Ahold USA EVP operations Bhavdeep Singh will oversee the Giant-Landover division on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is named, the company said.

Duane Reade in late August surpassed 1 million Twitter followers, and will be celebrating the accomplishment at its 40 Wall St. location on Tuesday during an invitation-only event.

NEW YORK — Duane Reade in late August surpassed 1 million Twitter followers, and will be celebrating the accomplishment at its 40 Wall St. location on Tuesday during an invitation-only event.  

That makes Duane Reade by far the most-followed retailer on Twitter in the food, drug and mass arena. Duane Reade has garnered five times more Twitter followers than its parent company Walgreens (180,390 followers), the second-most followed drug store retailer. CVS/pharmacy, No. 3, is followed by 117,931 Twitterers.

The Walmart Foundation is donating $1.29 million to the Institute for America's Health to expand its anti-obesity program at schools in major cities, the IAH said.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Walmart Foundation is donating $1.29 million to the Institute for America's Health to expand its anti-obesity program at schools in major cities, the IAH said.

The organization said it would use the money to expand the program at 30 elementary schools in Atlanta, Chicago and Washington and fund a statewide expansion of the program in Alabama. The Walmart Foundation donated $1 million to fund the program last year as well.
