LONDON — The ever-increasing popularity of vitamin D may have reached its plateau, suggested a report issued by Euromonitor International in late March, in part because of the vitamin’s ubiquity across the marketplace.

Accordingly, sales of vitamin D supplements may fall, especially sales of single-letter vitamin D, the report concluded.

NEW YORK — A new functional beverage that promises to help curb hangovers is hitting the market.

Mercy said its namesake beverage is a 60-calorie drink that's formulated with amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins, which is designed to replenish the body with key nutrients and prevent such hangover symptoms as headaches and nausea from occurring, according to the company.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration on Monday warned consumers to stop using Soladek, a vitamin-solution product marketed by Indo Pharma of the Dominican Republic, because the product may contain dangerously high levels of vitamins A and D.

The FDA received seven reports of serious health problems occurring in consumers using the product. The problems include decreased renal function, elevated levels of calcium in the blood, fatigue, heart arrhythmia, vomiting and diarrhea.
 

FOSTER CITY, Calif. — FRS Healthy Energy on Tuesday announced the launch of new Healthy Protein and Healthy Energy formulas to be shipped in April.

Both products will be fueled by the patented FRS quercetin formula, the company said. Quercetin, recently granted GRAS — generally recognized as safe — status by the Food and Drug Administration, is the natural energy-boosting antioxidant contained in all FRS products. To date, FRS Healthy Energy products contain the highest level of quercetin (QU995) on the market, the company claimed.

Women were much more likely than men to have taken vitamin D, calcium or probiotics. Men were more likely than women to have taken Co Q-10, herbs and extracts, glucosamine/chondroitin, vitamin E, resveratrol, amino acids, and nutrition drinks and powders.

EAST HANOVER, N.J. — Kraft Foods is building on the success of its vitamin-infused gums for Trident by expanding another gum brand's portfolio with a nutrient-filled, "ridiculously long-lasting gum," according to the company.

New Stride Spark gum contains vitamins B6 and B12, and will be available in two new flavors: Kinetic Mint and Kinetic Fruit. Each piece of Stride Spark contains 25% of the recommended daily value of the B vitamins, according to Stride.

MISSION, Kan. — Pharmavite spokeswoman Suzy Cohen, a noted pharmacist, author and frequent talk show guest, on Monday offered fresh advice for consumers perusing the dietary supplement aisle.

"A recent study by the National Institutes of Health found that about 50% of the U.S. population use dietary supplements, a slight increase from previous studies," Cohen stated.
