The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug that reverses the effects of anticoagulant drugs in patients who have suffered acute major bleeding, the agency said.

The FDA announced the approval of CSL Behring's Kcentra (prothrombin complex concentrate [human]) for the urgent reversal of vitamin K antagonist, or VKA drugs such as warfarin.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force on Monday issued a trio of controversial recommendations regarding supplementing with vitamin D and calcium. Specifically, the Task Force determined that the current evidence was insufficient to support vitamin D and calcium supplementation for the primary prevention of fractures in premenopausal women, in men or in postmenopausal women and recommended against daily supplementation of vitamin D or calcium toward that end.

Of those who take vitamins, more than 70% of respondents said they feel more confident about their health when they are taking a vitamin.
