A total of 58 pharmacy school students from 39 colleges and schools of pharmacy have been awarded scholarships by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation, the group announced Tuesday.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A total of 58 pharmacy school students from 39 colleges and schools of pharmacy have been awarded scholarships by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation, the group announced Tuesday.

The scholarships are valued at a total of $190,000. Money to fund the scholarship program comes from NACDS member and associate member companies that support the concept of pharmacy education, and is handed out to each of the nation’s more than 90 schools of pharmacy via a drawing held during the NACDS Annual Meeting each spring.

The National Community Pharmacists Association today applauded BB&T's decision to reemphasize and continue its employees' choice in filling their maintenance prescriptions, including at independent community pharmacies. The revised policy was communicated to BB&T employees last week.

We’re talking, of course, about the struggle to head off what would have been a devastating change in the way Medicaid pays community pharmacies to dispense generic drugs to low-income patients. On Dec. 14, the chain and independent pharmacy lobbies announced they had reached a landmark agreement with the 
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that effectively ends the threat.

The invitation comes in the form of a new Request for Proposal, issued Tuesday by the NACDS Foundation. The foundation is seeking bids from research organizations to study primary medication nonadherence, which occurs when a patient fails to fill or pick up his or her newly prescribed medication.

The most recent week (ended Dec. 19) reached $5.5 billion in spending, an increase of 14% versus the corresponding week last year. The final shopping weekend before Christmas reached $900 million in retail e-commerce spending, representing a strong 17% growth rate versus last year.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The education, research and charitable affiliate of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced its contribution of $1.5 million in grants to expand the availability of Community Pharmacy Residency Programs for pharmacy graduates.

CPRPs allow pharmacy residents to focus on providing direct patient care, developing patient care services with pharmacist preceptor oversight, the NACDS Foundation said. The NACDS Foundation seeks to jumpstart 30 new community pharmacy residencies nationwide — a 25% increase in total residency positions.
