The research firm’s "Top Health Industry Issues of 2011" report, based on a nationwide survey of 1,000 adults in the United States, identified six major issues facing health organizations:

Walgreens will provide more than $10 million worth of vouchers for free flu shots, which HHS will help distribute.

In addition to the $11.5 million upfront payment, Impax Pharmaceuticals, the branded drug division of Impax Labs, is eligible to receive potential payments of up to $175 million upon the successful achievement of development and commercialization milestones.

NEW YORK — L'Oréal USA is extending its coverage of American hair salons by acquiring the professional distribution business of Peel's Salon Services, a Nebraska-based company.

L'Oréal USA acquired Peel's Salon Services through its SalonCentric division. Through the acquisition, the SalonCentric division is extending its distribution territory, now covering the vast majority of the United States.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the third-leading cause of death in the United States, according to a new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

WASHINGTON — Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the third-leading cause of death in the United States, according to a new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics released the report Friday, which showed that COPD became the third-leading cause of death in 2008, but it was expected to reach that rank in 2020. COPD is a collective term for such respiratory diseases as emphysema, chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis, and affects around 24 million Americans.

Michel will depart at the end of the month, according to Ahold USA spokesperson Sara Neumann. She will be replaced on a temporary basis as operations chief by Don Sussman, EVP supply chain at Ahold, while the company conducts a search for a successor.

DETROIT — An India-based drug maker is looking to acquire all outstanding shares of another generic drug manufacturer based in the United States.

Caraco said it received and will discuss the proposal from Sun Pharma, by which Sun would acquire all outstanding shares of common stock it doesn't already own.

The $4.75-per-share cash transaction represents a 5% premium over the closing price of Caraco common stock on Dec. 2, Caraco said.
