In an effort to quell the significant sway creditors wield in dictating terms with retail vendors, the National Community Pharmacists Association, the National Grocers Association and the National Association of Convenience Stores on Monday submitted a joint brief to the Supreme Court as amici curiae in the case of American Express vs. Italian Colors Restaurant.

The National Community Pharmacists Association on Wednesday rejected a proposed settlement in relation to the antitrust lawsuit that NCPA and other parties have brought against several banks regarding alleged collusive practices, including swipe fees at exorbitant levels and limiting competition.

WASHINGTON — One week after the Senate failed to pass an amendment that would have delayed swipe-fee reform for an additional 12 months, the Department of Justice Antitrust Division reportedly is addressing anticompetitive practices related to credit cards.

The agency has submitted a final consent decree in its enforcement action against Visa and MasterCard, according to the Food Marketing Institute.

ST. LOUIS Energizer Holdings has obtained U.S. antitrust clearance for the acquisition of American Safety Razor.

The waiting period for the antitrust review under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 has expired. Clearance from regulatory authorities in Germany and Taiwan now must be satisfied before closing.

Energizer stated that it will continue to seek clearance from those authorities in advance of the Nov. 23 deadline in the Asset Purchase Agreement between Energizer and ASR.
