NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Little Clinic and King Soopers have partnered with University of Colorado health professionals to develop new initiatives, including a clinical affiliation agreement, to expand health-and-wellness services.

The CU School of Medicine, College of Nursing and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, along with University Physicians Inc., King Soopers and The Little Clinic have entered into a clinical affiliation agreement.

Prior to joining Diplomat, Kadlec was president and CEO of ExcelleRx, an Omnicare company.

Rite Aid's same-store sales increased by 1.1% in May, a lower-than-expected increase that may be due to underlying economic and industry factors.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid's same-store sales increased by 1.1% in May, a lower-than-expected increase that may be due to underlying economic and industry factors.

The results for the five weeks ended June 2 included a 1.3% increase in front-end comps and a 1% increase in pharmacy sales over May 2011. Same-store prescription count increased 2.6%. Total drug store sales for the period increased 0.3% to nearly $2.5 billion, compared with $2.45 billion in May 2011.

NEW YORK — Consumers' preference to shop in stores, online or via mobile can depend on such factors as reliability, convenience and safety, according to recent Nielsen research.

Online purchasing was rated the overall favorite by 59% of respondents surveyed and also was considered easiest and most convenient way to shop (both 68%). On the other hand, in-store shopping was considered the most reliable and safest option (69% and 77%, respectively) when compared with online and mobile shopping.

DEERFIELD Ill. — Walgreens has announced the appointment of Alan London as chief medical officer of Take Care Health Systems Consumer Solutions Group.

In the newly created position, London will have leadership responsibility in building and maintaining external physician and health system relationships for Take Care Clinics while also providing strategic direction and leadership for the group’s service expansion, quality, clinical education and training, and collaborative practice agreement functions. London joined Walgreens on May 21.

WASHINGTON — The number of retailers that fell victim to organized retail crime groups has increased, according to the National Retail Federation's "Organized Retail Crime Survey."

Of the 125 retail companies surveyed for NRF's eighth annual survey, a record-setting (96%) said their company has been the victim of organized retail crime in the past year, up from 94.5% last year. Another 87.7% said ORC activity in the United States has grown over the past three years.

Funds raised through the campaign will benefit the ALS Therapy Alliance, an organization dedicated to advancing ALS research, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Supporters for the 2012 campaign can donate $1 or $3 at the register in CVS/pharmacy locations and online through June 30.

Rite Aid announced that its board of directors had elected Standley to replace current chairman Mary Sammons, effective June 21. Sammons has served as chairman since June 2007 and plans to step down at the company's annual stockholder meeting.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — After announcing the retirement of its leader last December, Hy-Vee has named a new chairman and CEO.

The retailer said its president and COO, Randy Edeker, will become chairman, president and CEO, effective June 1. Edeker, 30-year veteran of Hy-Vee, replaces Ric Jurgens, who has served as Hy-Vee CEO since 2003 and chairman since 2006. Back in December 2011, Jurgens announced his intention to retire and nominate Edeker as his successor.
