Kroger said that its family of stores is offering new ways for its customers to save on gas.

CINCINNATI — Kroger said that its family of stores is offering new ways for its customers to save on gas.

The retailer said that customers can earn fuel discounts when they purchase select gift cards, and also when they fill certain eligible prescriptions.

Kroger noted that the discounts vary by state and that its prescription fuel savings promotion is not being offered to Arkansas pharmacy customers.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target has unveiled the first wave of the Zellers sites it will be taking over in Canada, representing 105 locations in all 10 Canadian provinces.

The vast majority of the sites will become Target stores after securing the necessary construction approval for extensive renovation. The stores will open beginning in 2013.

The checkstand fundraising, which will run through Aug. 13, is in conjunction with the USO's 70th anniversary.

All monies collected through the Ralphs/Food 4 Less Honoring Our Heroes fundraising program will be donated directly to the USO to support its programs, entertainment and other services for our service men and women.

Sales at mass-merchandise retailer Costco rose by 16% in third quarter 2011, according to an earnings statement released Wednesday.

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Sales at mass-merchandise retailer Costco rose by 16% in third quarter 2011, according to an earnings statement released Wednesday.

The Issaquah, Wash.-based retailer said sales for the quarter were $20.2 billion, compared with $17.4 billion in third quarter 2010. For the first three quarters of fiscal year 2011, sales were $59.5 billion, a 13% increase over $52.7 billion during the same period in 2010. The figures include sales from a joint venture in Mexico, of which Costco owns 50%.

Kelly, who has worked in real estate and development for more than 25 years, will start work May 31 and will have overall responsibility for all store planning and construction services, in addition to having a role in various segmentation initiatives, including Wellness, value and co-branded Save-A-Lot/Rite Aid stores. CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has raised more than $50 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since becoming a sponsor in 1994, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Rite Aid stores have been selling $1 paper Miracle Balloons since April in a campaign that will end Saturday, having raised $2.9 million so far this year. To mark the $50 milestone, celebrations will take place at stores in Bronx, N.Y.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Hershey, Pa.; Norfolk, Va.; and Eugene, Ore.

Safeway's board of directors announced a 21% increase in its quarterly dividend.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway's board of directors announced a 21% increase in its quarterly dividend.

The retailer's cash dividend rose to 14.5 cents per share and will be payable on July 14 to stockholders of record on June 23.

Safeway operates 1,692 stores in the United States and western Canada.

Target plans to spend more than it had forecast this year on its entry into the Canadian market as it nails down more of the best retail locations sooner than expected.

NEW YORK — Target plans to spend more than it had forecast this year on its entry into the Canadian market as it nails down more of the best retail locations sooner than expected.

The retailer said it will be able to “clarify” within weeks the number and locations of the first 100 to 150 stores it will open in Canada.

“We expect to close on higher value lease transactions sooner than expected,” Target CFO Doug Scovanner told analysts on a conference call Wednesday.
