Giant Food Stores plans to open a new store near Philadelphia on March 16, the Carlisle, Pa.-based Royal Ahold banner said.

FEASTERVILLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores plans to open a new store near Philadelphia on March 16, the Carlisle, Pa.-based Royal Ahold banner said.

Giant-Carlisle acquired the 53,000-sq.-ft. former Genuardi’s store from Safeway in Feasterville, Pa., in November 2010 and said the renovated store will look more like a modern Giant prototype.

Discount grocer Aldi has opened its first-ever New York City-area store in the borough of Queens.

NEW YORK — Discount grocer Aldi has opened its first-ever New York City-area store in the borough of Queens.

The store, which is located in Rego Park, marks the first of three grocery stores the company plans to open in New York, including new locations in the Bronx and Bay Shore, Long Island.

Aldi, which offers a limited assortment of items, said it will bring its standard floor plan to Queens, which includes wider-than-typical 8-ft. aisles.

NEW YORK —In an effort to drive awareness and product trials, Procter & Gamble brought to New York in late October an interactive pop-up store, highlighting such brands as Tide, Crest and Olay.

The store, which was open to the public from Oct. 22 to 31 and located at 101 West 57th St. near Sixth Avenue, was part of P&G’s multipronged “Have You Tried This Yet?” campaign.

NEW YORK — Costco was scheduled to open another store in New York on Thursday at the Rego Park shopping center in Queens.

The store is the warehouse chain’s fifth location in the city and features such amenities as a pharmacy and a photo-processing department, according to published reports.

The chain operates another store in Queens, one in Brooklyn, one in Staten Island and one in Manhattan, which opened late last year in Spanish Harlem and showcases a scaled-down format.
