CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harris Teeter will open a 61,000-sq.-ft. store in Baltimore, making it the chain's first in the city and seventh in Maryland.

The store, which will be located in the McHenry Row neighborhood of Baltimore, opens its doors on Dec. 7. The supermarket places strong emphasis on fresh foods, items-to-go and perishable items, Harris Teeter said.

The chain also is applying for LEED certification for the location, noting the supermarket will include electric vehicle charging stations and an integrated refrigeration.

ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo on Tuesday announced it received Food and Drug Administration clearance to market and distribute infant formula that contains 100% partially hydrolyzed whey protein. The store-brand Comfort Care infant formula is designed for babies with fussiness or gas and will be sold as a nutritionally comparable version of Gerber Good Start gentle infant formula at leading retailers in 2012.

Sales of the national brand are estimated to be $55 million for the latest 52-weeks, as measured by SymphonyIRI Group.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Thursday marked the 80th anniversary of a Milwaukee-based store that continues to serve the students and surrounding community of Marquette University.

The store, located on 16th St. and Wisconsin Ave., is the second-oldest Walgreens that still operates at its original location, the drug store chain said. The store experienced several innovations rolled out by Walgreens, including "touch-tone prefills," large-type prescription instructions and offering immunizations daily with no appointment necessary.

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — Walmart is gearing up to open a Neighborhood Market store this month in Midwest City, Okla.

The 40,000-sq.-ft. format will offer customers quick access to low-cost groceries, prescriptions and household products. The store officially will open its doors on Sept. 21.

As previously reported, Walmart president and CEO Bill Simon said that the Neighborhood Market format is being rebranded as Walmart Market.

MEMPHIS — Family Dollar opened its 7,000th store Thursday, further cementing the dollar-store channel as an area of rapid growth.

The store is located in Memphis, Tenn., and features a green building design and a spacious layout for an optimal shopping experience, the company reported.

To commemorate the opening of its 7,000th store in Memphis, Family Dollar completed the celebration with a $7,000 donation to the Mid-South Food Bank, along with cans of food donated by members of the local community.

Fresh & Easy officially opened its doors to San Francisco shoppers on Wednesday, marking the retailer's first store in the city.

SAN FRANCISCO — Fresh & Easy officially opened its doors to San Francisco shoppers on Wednesday, marking the retailer's first store in the city.

The store is located in the Outer Richmond district at 32nd Avenue and Clement Street. Fresh & Easy reported it was set to break ground in Northern California earlier this year, and now is operating more than 10 stores in the region. The company operates stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.

NEW YORK — Discount grocer Aldi has opened its first-ever New York City-area store in the borough of Queens.

The store, which is located in Rego Park, marks the first of three grocery stores the company plans to open in New York, including new locations in the Bronx and Bay Shore, Long Island.

Aldi, which offers a limited assortment of items, said it will bring its standard floor plan to Queens, which includes wider-than-typical 8-ft. aisles.
