Specialty pharmacy provider Assured Pharmacy said first-quarter net sales jumped to $4.4 million for the period ended March 31, an increase of 22.4% from the year-ago quarter.

FRISCO, Texas — Specialty pharmacy provider Assured Pharmacy said first-quarter net sales jumped to $4.4 million for the period ended March 31, an increase of 22.4% from the year-ago quarter.

The 22.4% increase in sales for the quarter primarily was attributed to an increase in the number of prescriptions dispensed during the period, Assured said.

STAMFORD, Conn. — Nestle Waters North America has inked a deal to acquire the maker of Sweet Leaf and Tradewinds beverage brands.

Nestle Waters said its acquisition of Austin, Texas-based Sweet Leaf Tea Co. — which was founded in 1998 — is subject to applicable regulatory approval and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions. The deal will expand the company's beverage portfolio of bottled water to include high-quality iced teas, lemonades and juice drinks.

The PepsiCo division said that its growing Facebook fan base has helped it garner the Guinness World Record title for "Most Fans on Facebook in 24 Hours," with nearly 1.6 million "likes" in one day, which occurred April 11.

To celebrate this achievement, Frito-Lay is giving away a coupon for a free bag of chips on its Facebook page to the first 24,000 consumers that "like" Frito-Lay, starting on April 29 at 2 p.m. Central Standard Time.

As of April, Walgreens had announced three markets in which it had opened electric charging stations in its store parking lots. 


Unlike gas stations where consumers can simply pump and go, charging stations can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a half hour, which creates more time to capture more purchases.

CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif. — Even with an extra week in this year's reporting period, 99 Cents Only Stores reported a total sales increase for it fiscal fourth quarter. The company reported total sales of $378.5 million for the 14-week fourth quarter of fiscal 2011 ended April 2, 2011, compared with $339.3 million for the 13-week fourth quarter in the prior fiscal year.

The company reported a same-store sales increase of 0.5% for the quarter. Excluding Texas operations, comps were up 0.7%.

FRISCO, Texas — Specialty pharmacy provider Assured Pharmacy will reduce its stock through a reverse stock split, the company said Thursday.

The company, which trades on the pink sheets but seeks to eventually be listed on a larger exchange, announced that it had filed an amendment to its articles of incorporation whereby it would convert every 180 shares of stock to a single stock, reducing the total number of shares of outstanding common stock from 416,200,000 to 2,321,222, while reducing authorized shares of common stock from 3 billion to 16,666,667.

FRISCO, Texas — Specialty pharmacy group Assured Pharmacy said that same-store sales for January totaled $1.42 million, a 28.5% increase over the year-ago period.

Compared with December 2010 sales, however, January same-store sales decreased 5.6% from sales of about $1.5 million. The revenue drop, Assured said, was due to "seasonality," noting that many patients experienced insurance carrier and coverage changes.
