AUSTIN, Texas Whole Foods and retailers nationwide are looking to raise awareness about the presence of genetically modified organisms in the food supply.

Non-GMO Day, which will be celebrated Oct. 10, is driven by nonprofit group the Non-GMO Project. Whole Foods Market currently carries more than 800 products that are verified by the Non-GMO Project, with thousands more in the pipeline. GMOs now are present in 75% to 80% of conventional processed food in the United States, according to the Grocery Manufacturers Association.

PLANO, Texas After launching eco-friendly bags for its SunChips brand, Frito-Lay again is looking to revamp the packaging.

According to a report by USA Today, Frito-Lay said it is removing the noisy material found in the compostable bags. While they are environmentally friendly, the bags have received negative customer feedback.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. A bipartisan legislation that seeks to prevent organized retail crime is being applauded by the chain pharmacy industry.

The Organized Retail Theft Investigation and Prosecution Act of 2010, introduced by Reps. Bobby Scott, D-Va., and Lamar Smith, R-Texas, would create a specific task force within the Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute instances involving organized retail crime.
