NEW YORK — A new urban fashion accessory has hit the market.

Hatch Ventures recently introduced Subs, designed for consumers who wear baggy pants well below the waistline. Like traditional suspenders, Subs are designed to keep pants from falling down by cinching around the waist and are worn underneath a shirt. The wearer can control how long they want their pants to "sag," and prevent pants from falling any lower.

Subs carry a suggested retail price of $34.95 and currently are available on Hatch Ventures' website, HatchVentures.com.

DUBLIN, Ohio Cardinal Health is looking to expand the pharmaceutical segment of its business by acquiring a pharmaceutical distributor serving the New York metropolitan area.

The company said its acquisition of Kinray for $1.3 billion in an all-cash transaction would significantly expand its ability to serve retail independent pharmacies in the northeastern United States. Kinray currently serves more than 2,000 retail independent pharmacy customers as a distributor of both branded and generic pharmaceuticals.

BASEL, Switerland — Swiss drug maker Novartis will focus on innovation as part of a program for long-term growth, the company said Wednesday.

Novartis touted its research and development pipeline of 142 drugs in clinical trials, 35% of which are in phase 3 or undergoing regulatory review, as well as a plan to submit 30 more drugs for regulatory review by the end of 2012. The company also plans to continue investing in vaccine development.

MINNEAPOLIS — A 20-year veteran at Supervalu will become a senior counselor outside of the company for one year.

David Boehnen, who as EVP was responsible for legal, business development, real estate and store development, as well as government affairs, will leave his post at the retailer but will serve as a senior counselor for Supervalu president and CEO Craig Herkert for one year.

The change is effective Dec. 15.

Shewmaker began his career at Walmart in 1970 and rose steadily through the ranks of the company, serving in numerous capacities, including district manager; VP security (now known as loss prevention); VP store operations; EVP store operations, personnel and merchandise; CFO; and president and COO. Shewmaker retired from the company in1988, but continued as a member of Walmart’s board of directors.
