HORSHAM, Pa. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug made by Johnson & Johnson for treating ulcerative colitis in children.

J&J subsidiary Janssen Biotech said Friday that the FDA approved Remicade (infliximab) for moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in children who have not responded adequately to conventional therapies.

The new recommended pricing for an 8-pack of Coca-Cola mini cans, which are 7.5 oz. each, will reduce the average price for the package to just under $3. This makes the per can cost comparable with that of the typical price of a 12-oz. Coca-Cola can fridge pack.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a treatment made by Alexion Pharmaceuticals for a rare blood disorder that affects children.

The FDA announced the approval of Soliris (eculizumab) for atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, a rare and chronic disease that can lead to kidney failure, stroke and death. According to the FDA, aHUS accounts for 5% to 10% of all cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome.

Kroger announced that it has become a member of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Million Dollar Club.

CINCINNATI — Kroger announced that it has become a member of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Million Dollar Club.

According to Kroger, membership into the USHCC Million Dollar Club, is awarded to corporations who have spent between $25 million to more than $500 million with Hispanic suppliers, in the previous year.

This is Kroger's second consecutive year of qualifying for membership. The company was inducted in the $250 to $500 million annual expenditure category.

PRINCETON, N.J., and LA JOLLA, Calif. — Two drug makers have entered a collaboration for novel biologics programs in diabetes and heart failure.

Under the partnership, Bristol-Myers Squibb will receive exclusive worldwide rights to research, develop and commercialize biologics, based on research by Ambrx of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF-21) protein and relaxin hormone, which potentially can treat Type 2 diabetes and heart failure, respectively.

NEW YORK — Dr. Reddy's Labs has launched a drug for treating Alzheimer's disease, the company said.

Dr. Reddy's announced the launch of rivastigmine tartrate capsules in the 1.5-mg, 3-mg, 4.5-mg and 6-mg strengths.

The drug is a generic version of Novartis' Exelon. Exelon and other generic versions of the drug had sales of about $92.6 million during the 12-month period ended in June, according to IMS Health.

Bilbrey said that Bert Alfonso has been named EVP, CFO and chief administrative officer; Michele Buck has been named SVP and chief growth officer; and Mike Wege has been named SVP and chief commercial officer. The executives joined Hershey in 2006, 2005 and 2002, respectively.
