SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — Hero Nutritionals on Wednesday introduced two sugar-free vitamins to its Yummi Bears line that are naturally sweetened with lo han fruit and inulin fiber.

“Overall the gummy vitamin category is up by 19% year over year, with the new sugar-free trend emerging," stated Claire Polson, national sales and marketing manager for Hero Nutritionals. “Additionally, the supplement alternative sweetener category grew by 10%, with the children’s multivitamin category driving it at 23% growth as compared to 2011.”

To help ensure the quality of popular food ingredients increasingly being incorporated into products sold in the United States and worldwide, standards for omega 3-rich krill oil and natural, low-calorie stevia sweeteners are among the latest proposed revisions to the Food Chemicals Codex, the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention that publishes the codex announced Wednesday.

TORRANCE, Calif. — Yakult USA is introducing a probiotic drink to the U.S. market.

Yakult Light, which has nearly two-thirds less sugar and one-third fewer calories than regular Yakult, contains active probiotic bacteria called Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota. The product also is made with natural sweeteners and natural flavors, and is free of preservatives, gluten and high-fructose corn syrup. Unlike regular Yakult products, Yakult Light will tout blue and white packaging, with the red Yakult logo.

NEW YORK — Domino Foods is expanding its lineup of sweeteners by adding new items to its Domino and C&H sugar brands.

New Domino Light and C&H Light are an all-natural blend of pure cane sugar and stevia with half the calories of sugar, the company said. Domino Light and C&H Light are available in two package sizes: a 40-count packet box, and a 2-lb. resealable pouch, which offers the sweetness equivalent of a 4-lb. bag of sugar.

Just in time for summer, Trop50 has debuted lemonade and raspberry lemonade beverages. Each variety contains no artificial sweeteners and 50% less sugar and calories.

Hansen's Natural Fruit Stix and Tea Stix offer consumers a new way to enjoy great-tasting beverages in a water-soluble powdered drink mix, the company said, adding that each serving contains 100% of the daily recommended dose of vitamin C.
