SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. on Wednesday disclosed a more than 4% decrease in sales for fiscal year 2010.

The California supermarket chain said sales for the fiscal year ended Sept. 26 were $3.61 billion, down from $3.77 billion in fiscal year 2009. Sales for the fourth quarter also experienced a decline, dropping to $897.4 million, down 3.15% over the year-ago period.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A regional supermarket chain's green efforts have paid off.

One year from when Stater Bros. introduced its "Green Waste" composting program, which turns organic waste into compost that is sold to area farmers, the retailer was named the 2010 Waste Reduction Awards Program winner by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. A Southern California-based supermarket chain is assisting with hunger relief throughout November and December.

Stater Bros., in conjunction with its charitable arm, Stater Bros. Charities, will host its Harvesting Hope campaign. The retailer said it is collecting nonperishable food items for struggling families and accepting additional cash donations in all 167 Stater Bros. stores. The stores also are offering customers the opportunity to purchase $10 Harvesting Hope scannable donation cards.
