SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Pharmacy technology provider QS/1 has entered a contract with CoverMyMeds to automate a process often required by insurers to dispense specialty drugs.

QS/1 said it entered a partnership with CoverMyMeds to automate the prior-authorization process, required for 90% of specialty drugs on the market.

"A pharmacist can spend a lot of time cutting through the red tape to get these prescriptions filled," QS/1 pharmacy market analyst John Frady said. "CoverMyMeds helps cut down on that work load by automating the process."

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a treatment for a disease that causes brittle nails.

Innocutis announced the FDA approval of Nuvail (poly-ureaurethane) nail solution in the 16% strength. The drug is used to treat nail dystrophy, which causes fragile and brittle nails that crack and split.

One of the most common forms of nail dystrophy is brittle nail syndrome, which affects about 20% of the population, with women disproportionately affected. Patients with the condition report that their nails are painful and impair daily activities.

Summerville, S.C.-based American BioTech Supply announced the donation to Denver Health at the conclusion of the 2012 National Association of Chain Drug Stores' Pharmacy & Technology Conference, which took place in Denver from Aug. 26 to 28. Denver Health provides healthcare services to 25% of all Denver residents, or about 150,000 people, and the organization serves one-in-three children in the city.
