Want to name a private-brand soda? Food Lion is betting that some of its shoppers will want to do just that so it has kicked off the “You Name it” contest.

SALISBURY, N.C. — Want to name a private-brand soda? Food Lion is betting that some of its shoppers will want to do just that so it has kicked off the “You Name it” contest.

Now through April 27, Food Lion customers can name their favorite private brand soda flavors for a chance to win prizes.

To participate, customers submit their suggested names for Food Lion brand root beer, ginger ale, orange soda, grape soda and fruit punch. One entry per soda per day is allowed in order to offer multiple opportunities to win prizes.

Last year, the brand added flavored water enhancers, Dasani Drops.

The brand, invented by a pharmacist in 1904, has seen an uptick in sales that Dr Pepper Snapple Group attributes to “the perceived healthfulness of ginger ale as a CSD flavor.” Sales were up 20% in the drug store channel last year, according to Nielsen.

Under the agreement, the companies will cooperate to bring the Keurig Cold beverage system to consumers around the world. The companies also entered into a Common Stock Purchase Agreement; Coca-Cola will purchase a 10% minority equity position in GMCR.

The specialty segment, which includes such super-premium brands as Blue Moon, Shock Top and Land Shark, has been strong with volume sales ahead 13% and dollar sales up 15% for the 52 week period ended June 30.

ATLANTA — The Coca-Cola Co. is releasing a limited-edition version of Diet Coke in cans inspired by pop singer Taylor Swift, the company said.

Coca-Cola said the Diet Coke Taylor Swift can six-pack would be on beverage aisles nationwide this month and next month. Each 12-oz. can has a special, slim design and is adorned in handwritten style with a Swift quotation: "If you're lucky enough to be different, don't ever change." The collector's edition can is part of Coca-Cola's multi-year partnership with Swift.
