Integrated communications have the most impact because earned, owned and paid media reinforce and amplify the message. All channels feed off each other; the more frequently a potential customer sees or hears about a brand or retailer, particularly in more than one context or venue, the more likely she is to remember and purchase.

CHICAGO — Almost 100 million Americans use social media to shop, according to a new survey.

Agency network Leo Burnett Worldwide and its marketing services arm, Arc Worldwide, released results of the "SocialShop" study Wednesday showing that 95 million Americans, or 42% of Americans, are shopping through social media, while almost 73% of people are using social media more than a year ago.

As we welcome a new year, it is exciting to see all the changes headed our way. With all the movement around healthcare reform and technology, we in the pharmacy industry are quick to point out that this industry is years ahead of the rest of health care in terms of payment solutions and automated workflow. The rest of the industry is running to catch up — but right now the pharmacy industry is far from where we need to be to address critical factors in our industry. That said, there are tremendous opportunities that several companies are bringing forward with new technology that can truly revolutionize the delivery of health care.

NEW YORK — Pacific Northwest retailer Bartell Drugs recently used social networking to attract attention to its photo department, according to published reports.

Online news site GeekWire reported that Bartell sponsored a "Free Print Weekend" promotion last week in which people who "liked" the Seattle-based chain's Facebook page received up to 20 free photo prints from its Kodak picture kiosks. Bartell operates 58 stores in the Puget Sound region, the metropolitan area around Seattle.
