PORTAGE, Mich. — A Bronson FastCare retail healthcare site is slated to open inside a Meijer store in Portage, Mich., on April 1, offering the first-of-its-kind service in the area.

The new Bronson FastCare clinic will offer medical care for minor ailments such as sore throats, fevers, flu and colds, ear and sinus infections, pink eye, skin rashes and allergies. Lab services will also be available for pregnancy tests, monospots, rapid strep and urinalysis.

Bartell Drugs will open retail clinics at three of its stores under a partnership with a local health organization, the Seattle-based regional drug store chain said Monday.

SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs will open retail clinics at three of its stores under a partnership with a local health organization, the Seattle-based regional drug store chain said Monday.

Bartell said it would partner with Group Health Cooperative to open clinics at two stores in Seattle and one in the neighboring city of Bellevue, Wash., staffed by nurse practitioners from Group Health. The program is called CareClinic: Group Health at Bartell Drugs, or CareClinic for short, and the initial three clinics will open between January and March 2014.

For the most common conditions suffered by consumers or someone in their household, OTCs served as the first line of defense for more than 40% of consumers across the board, according to an online survey of more than 900 AccentHealth viewers that was conducted in September.

For the 77% of AccentHealth viewers who had experienced heartburn in the past year, 46% used an OTC treatment for relief. For top five symptoms/conditions experienced by viewers in the past year — including cold, cough/sore throat, headache, sinus/nasal congestion and runny nose — 43% of consumers used OTCs to address those conditions before other treatment options.

And cold symptoms and headaches were the most commonly suffered acute conditions, according to an online survey of more than 900 AccentHealth viewers that was conducted in September.

As many as 95% reported that either themselves or someone in their household had a cold, 92% suffered from a cough or sore throat, and 91% experienced a headache. The top conditions suffered chronically by respondents included sinus/nasal congestion (90%), muscle ache/pain (87%) and allergy (87%).

Among those health conditions treated with OTCs, AccentHealth viewers reported that allergies, sinus/nasal congestion and pain — including back, muscle and menstrual — to be the most commonly suffered chronic conditions. And cold symptoms and headaches were the most commonly suffered acute conditions, according to an online survey of more than 900 AccentHealth viewers that was conducted in September.
