WASHINGTON — This Black Friday weekend proved to be a help to retailers, as shopper traffic and spending both increased, the National Retail Federation said.

While 212 million shoppers visited stores and websites this weekend, up from 195 million shoppers last year, the average shopper spend totaled $365.34 this weekend, a 6.4% increase from last year. Total spending reached an estimated $45 billion, NRF said.

The drug store chain said that from Nov. 25 through Nov. 27, customers can enjoy deep discounts on must-have gifts, toys and electronics, as well as additional incentives through its ExtraCare program. CVS/pharmacy shoppers that use their ExtraCare cards can earn 2% back on nearly every purchase and receive instant Extra Bucks every time they shop, simply by purchasing specially advertised items.

Consumers shopping this Black Friday will spend in a “mindful manner" ...

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. Consumers shopping this Black Friday will spend in a “mindful manner,” according to a new Nielsen survey.

While 1-in-5 Americans confirmed they will shop on Black Friday, 61% of those surveyed said that they only planned to spend $100 to $500, and 60% of those surveyed will be armed with a shopping list. Other findings included:

  • Of the 19% of Americans planning to shop Black Friday, 10% will be shopping Black Friday for the first time;

MINNEAPOLIS — Target announced that it has revamped a number of stores in its hometown. The company reported that more than 25 Target stores in the Twin Cities metro area have been redesigned to further deliver one-stop shopping convenience for guests.

Among the changes is an increased food selection that offers 90% of the categories found in a SuperTarget. Interactive displays and wider aisles were implemented to make the shopping experience more enjoyable, Target said.
