CHICAGO — A late Christmas gift may be in the works for retailers, according to new research from ShopperTrak.

According to the company, the day after Christmas (Dec. 26), is expected to experience an increase in foot traffic, with up to 60% more shoppers. The day after Christmas will rank third in foot traffic for the holiday shopping season, surpassed by Black Friday and Super Saturday, the Saturday one week before Christmas. This is great news for retailers, ShopperTrak said, as national foot traffic has been steadily falling since 2005.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears and Kmart have entered the future of staying connected to consumers introducing mobile shopping walls in high-traffic areas.

The shopping walls, which will feature top toys that customers can purchase from their smartphones by scanning the products' QR code, will be available in select malls across the United States, and, for Kmart only, in movie theater lobbies in major markets. LOS ANGELES — The state of the economy continues to impact consumers' holiday shopping decisions as many plan to spend less or the same this year.

According to a new survey of 3,070 U.S. online shopping consumers, conducted by PriceGrabber, 45% said that they plan to spend less this year, while 49% plan to spend the same, compared with 2010. Additionally, more than two-thirds of those surveyed (68%) said the economic climate will affect their overall spending, with many of them attributing their decision to an increase in prices for food, gas and other necessities.

ShopperTrak said its 3% holiday sales increase prediction follows 19 consecutive months of year-over-year U.S. retail sales growth, adding that the expected increase is moderate when compared with the 2010 holiday season's 4.1% sales increase over 2009.
