The app enables shoppers to peruse the weekly ad circular on their mobile phones or computers. The grocer's eOffers (digital coupons) can be added to the customer's Giant Eagle Advantage Card.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Tuesday introduced its new Web Pickup service at locations throughout the Indianapolis area. Indianapolis is the second full market rollout for Web Pickup, which enables consumers to shop online at Walgreens.com and pick up orders at a Walgreens store in as little as an hour. The service also is currently available throughout Chicago and at a number of stores in San Jose, Calif.

WASHINGTON — The combination of earlier-than-ever opening hours, favorable weather and deal-conscious consumers receptive to heightened promotional activity produced record sales over Thanksgiving weekend.

The National Retail Federation said an estimated 226 million shoppers visited stores and websites over Thanksgiving weekend, compared with 212 million last year, and spent an average of $398 per person, compared with $365 last year. Those findings are based on an NRF survey of 3,826 shoppers conducted over the weekend by BIGresearch.

The first of these is Cyber Week, launched to mark Cyber Monday, an online shopping holiday that is one of the busiest of the year. The chain is offering limited-time deals on items commonly purchased online, such as beauty and personal care items, personalized photo calendars and vitamins, as well as 20% off when customers spend $50 or more. TORONTO — Shoppers Drug Mart is looking to help customers that are in search of the perfect gift this holiday season through a new Facebook application.

The Shoppers Drug Mart Holiday app allows customers to find the right gift for a Facebook friend and produces results based on the person's interests. A link to the app is hosted on the "Gifts Made Easy" page on the Shoppers Drug Mart website.

Gifts range in price from below $25 to above $50, according to the website.

NRF’s 2011 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, conducted by BIGresearch, found that 8-out-of-10 shoppers will give gift cards this year, thanks to e-gifting, instant delivery through Facebook, personalized video and mobile giving options. Average spending is expected to be the highest since 2007.

CHICAGO — A late Christmas gift may be in the works for retailers, according to new research from ShopperTrak.

According to the company, the day after Christmas (Dec. 26), is expected to experience an increase in foot traffic, with up to 60% more shoppers. The day after Christmas will rank third in foot traffic for the holiday shopping season, surpassed by Black Friday and Super Saturday, the Saturday one week before Christmas. This is great news for retailers, ShopperTrak said, as national foot traffic has been steadily falling since 2005.
