Walgreens' chief marketing officer Kim Feil was inducted into the In-Store Marketing Institute Hall of Fame Thursday morning in Chicago.

CHICAGO — Walgreens' chief marketing officer Kim Feil was inducted into the In-Store Marketing Institute Hall of Fame Thursday morning in Chicago.

Feil was a seasoned consumer packaged goods marketer when she joined Walgreens in fall 2008. As company CEO Greg Wasson recently noted, she propelled Walgreens from being a good advertiser to a world-class marketing organization.

CHICAGO — Hispanics will wield $1.2 trillion in buying power in less than a year, the SymphonyIRI Group and partner Synovate noted Wednesday in a new joint market research report.

The two companies created HispanicLink to help retailers and manufacturers more effectively develop marketing and merchandising programs to reach this burgeoning demographic. The analysis included intel on Hispanics’ shopping habits, cooking, eating and drinking behaviors, health-and-wellness practices and their media preferences.

LOS ANGELES — Warehouse mass merchandiser Costco will use an online portal to increase in-store product knowledge and enhance shoppers’ experiences.

Shopper marketing agency Creative Channel Services announced Tuesday that Costco would use its CyberScholar Retail Network and had integrated it into its U.S. employee-development strategies for consumer electronics products.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — The In-Store Marketing Institute announced the gold award winner for its “Design of the Times” contest.

The Safeway June Dairy multivendor program, developed by Safeway and Mars Advertising, sought to generate category sales, increase category awareness and leverage June Dairy Month to further drive traffic to Safeway’s dairy department. The program was supported with product sampling, shopper education on the benefits of dairy and out-of-store elements, including online sweepstakes and circulars.
