PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Friday announced that its board of directors increased the authorized level of the company's stock repurchase program by $2 billion. Through the end of the third quarter of 2013, Safeway had approximately $0.8 billion remaining under its previously authorized stock repurchase program.

Safeway's stock repurchase authorization does not have an expiration date, and the timing of repurchases will depend on market conditions.

Dutch supermarket operator Royal Ahold has bought back more than a quarter of the shares it intends to as part of a share-repurchase program announced earlier this year.

ZAANDAM, Netherlands — Dutch supermarket operator Royal Ahold has bought back more than a quarter of the shares it intends to as part of a share-repurchase program announced earlier this year.

The company said Monday that it had bought back 2.23 million for $38.8 million. The purchases are part of the $678 million buyback program announced in February and increased by $2.03 billion in June.

The total amount repurchased so far is 42.8 million shares, for a total price of $711.9 million.

Kroger's board of directors raised the quarterly dividend by 10%, to 16.5 cents per share, to be paid on Dec. 1, 2013 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on Nov. 15, 2013.

CINCINNATI — Kroger's board of directors on Thursday raised the quarterly dividend by 10%, to 16.5 cents per share, to be paid on Dec. 1, 2013 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on Nov. 15, 2013.

"This increase reflects the board of directors' continued confidence that our Customer 1st strategy delivers sustainable shareholder value," stated David Dillon, Kroger's chairman and CEO. "Since we reinstated dividends in 2006, Kroger has returned more than $8.3 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases."

The board of directors of AmerisourceBergen has authorized a new $750 million share repurchase program.

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — The board of directors of AmerisourceBergen has authorized a new $750 million share repurchase program.

AmerisourceBergen expects to use the new program to repurchase its outstanding shares of common stock, subject to market conditions. The company has $446.1 million remaining on its prior November 2012 authorization, bringing the total amount authorized for repurchases to $1.2 billion. To date in fiscal year 2013, which ends Sept. 30, the company has spent $401.1 million to repurchase its outstanding shares of common stock.

Target has completed its $10 billion share repurchase program.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target has completed its $10 billion share repurchase program.

The program, which was authorized by the retailer's board of directors in November 2007, represents the repurchase of 193.5 million shares, or nearly 23% of its outstanding shares from that time period, at an average price of $51.68 per share.

Target will continue to repurchase shares under the $5 billion program approved by its board of directors in January, which it expects to complete in the next two to three years.

This program replaces the previous $15 billion program, announced on June 4, 2010, that had approximately $2 billion of remaining authorization. Under the program, repurchased shares are retired constructively and returned to unissued status.

At its Analyst Day in October 2010, the company announced that it set a targeted dividend payout ratio of approximately 25% to 30% by 2015, which implied a compounded dividend growth rate of nearly 25% per year.
