SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs is moving its headquarters, the Seattle-based retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

Bartell's, which operates 58 stores in and around Washington state's largest city, said it would move its headquarters to the West Seattle Corporate Center in October. Its present headquarters is in Georgetown, a neighborhood south of downtown Seattle. The new, 32,000-sq.-ft. headquarters was built in 1991 as the headquarters for Services Group of America.

SEATTLE — The Salvation Army's Northwest division has appointed an executive of Bartell Drugs to its advisory board, Bartell's said Thursday.

The regional drug store chain announced the appointment of VP marketing Theron Andrews, saying it continued a "long-standing relationship" between Bartell's and the charity organization, which includes the annual "Toy 'N' Joy" drive for disadvantaged children during the holiday season.

SEATTLE — Regional chain Bartell Drugs is partnering with a charity group to launch a food-collection program.

The 58-store, Seattle-based chain announced a partnership with Food Lifeline to sponsor the Bartell's Community Food Drive to replenish local food banks over the summer. The program, scheduled to last from May 28 to June 10, is designed to help families that normally depend on free and reduced-price school meals and may struggle to provide healthy meals at home.

Just for U, launched in the chain's Oregon and Washington divisions, delivers targeted savings directly to a customer's Safeway club card. Deals are offered on items a shopper most frequently buys, as well as items they might be interested in — providing savings of up to 10% to 20% more than by using a Safeway club card alone, Safeway said.

BOTHELL, Wash. — Seattle Genetics and Takeda's cancer drug subsidiary have started a late-stage clinical trial for a lymphoma drug, the companies said Wednesday.

Seattle Genetics and Millennium announced the start of a phase-3 trial of Adcetris (brentuximab vedotin) in patients relapsed cutaneous T-cell lymphoma that expresses the CD30 cell membrane protein. The study will enroll more than 120 patients who will be divided into two groups, one of which will receive Adcetris and another that will receive methotrexate or bexarotene.

NEW YORK — Club retailer Costco Wholesale is looking to grow its online retail presence, according to published reports.

According to The Seattle Times, the company plans to introduce apps for Apple and Android devices this month in order to boost its online sales, which, at about $2 billion a year, are behind companies like Walmart and Amazon.

Citing industry statistics, The Seattle Times reported that Costco ranked 17th among online retailers, while Amazon had the top spot, and Walmart was fourth.

Bartell's, based in Seattle, announced plans to open a store in North Bend, Wash., in mid-2013. The company said it would be the chain's first "all-new store" to showcase its new store concept, which the company unveiled in September 2011.

Starbucks said its Starbucks Refreshers line combines green coffee extract (made with 100% Arabica beans) with a boost of natural energy from caffeine and fruit juice. Each 12-oz. can touts 60 calories.

Starbucks Refreshers, currently sold at select stores, are available in raspberry pomegranate, strawberry lemonade and orange melon varieties.

PRINCETON, N.J. — In an effort to take Type 1 diabetes research to the next level, Novo Nordisk is set to open a research and development center in Seattle.

The center, slated to open this summer, will combine basic research and early proof-of-concept trials under one umbrella, the drug maker said. Additionally, the center will be staffed by approximately 20 researchers who will be supported by corporate functions in the United States and Denmark.
