NEW YORK — Kmart got mixed, albeit largely positive reviews, from a couple of ads placed on YouTube, but many people are saying a recent parody of the ads goes too far, and it has attracted a response from the retailer.

The two Kmart-produced ads — "Ship My Pants," to tout the mass-merchandise retailer's buy-now ship-later service, and "Big Gas Savings," about discounts on gasoline for members of the Shop Your Way loyalty program — quickly went viral on YouTube while also making some people question their taste.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Black turned to red for Kmart parent company Sears Holdings as the company reported losses of $279 million for first-quarter 2013, compared with a $189 million profit in first-quarter 2012.

At the same time, despite a 3.6% decline in comps during the quarter for the company's U.S. business, online business for its Sears.com and Kmart.com website grew by 20%, and members of its Shop Your Way loyalty program generated more than 60% of sales.

Fulfilled By Sears allows merchants to market and sell to members of the company's Shop Your Way Rewards program. Sears said members of the program buy and spend more and recently exceeded 60% of Sears transactions and sales.

NEW YORK — A national campaign launched by heath and environmental groups is targeting 10 major retailers to encourage them to remove from their shelves products that contain potentially hazardous materials.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — The Environmental Protection Agency has given Sears Holdings a 2013 Energy Star Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award, the company said Monday.

Sears Holdings, which operates Kmart, said its efforts to promote sustainability and energy efficiency would be recognized at a ceremony in Washington on March 26.

The company has been an Energy Star partner since 1998.

Sears Holdings is adding some of its own fare to its mygofer.com offering, an online grocery service that "turbo-charges brick-and-mortar retailer assortments by allowing customers to get items from those stores where and when they want them in new, convenient ways." 

NEW YORK — Sears Holdings will add some of its own products and allow customers to pick up products ordered from its flagship store in Chicago on the same day, according to published reports.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — The CEO of Sears Holdings is stepping down due to unspecified family health reasons, the company said.

Sears, the parent company of Kmart, said Lou D'Ambrosio would step down on Feb. 2, the end of the company's fiscal year. Edward Lampert will assume the role of CEO and chairman, while D'Ambrosio will remain on the board until the company's next annual meeting, in May 2013.

Sears Holdings announced the appointment of Mets VP player development and amateur scouting Paul DePodesta. His election to the board brings the total number of board members to eight.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Boldface Group has shipped its first wave of holiday merchandise to several retailers around the country, the company said Thursday.

The beauty products maker said it had shipped faux eyelashes, mascara, lipstick sets and others to retailers like CVS, Duane Reade, Kmart, Fred Meyer, Meijer, Ulta and others. The products include Lash Dash Faux Lashes, Kardazzle Alll Over Face Palette Kits, Au Naturel Lip Sets and Khroma Beauty by Kourtney, Kim and Khloe Kardashian.
