Duck Tape brand duct tape will join forces with Fiskars Corp. to introduce a new line of scissors for crafting.

AVON, OH — Duck Tape brand duct tape will join forces with Fiskars Corp. to introduce a new line of scissors for crafting, the companies announced on Tuesday.

“Both Duck brand duct tape and Fiskars share a commitment to creating innovative products that help people express their creativity,” Fiskars VP brand marketing Jay Gillespie said. “This partnership is a perfect fit, and we’re looking forward to giving enthusiasts tools that make creating with Duck Tape easier than ever before.”

A recent study by market research company the NPD Group on the men’s grooming market found that more than 9-in-10 men are using some sort of grooming product today, whether it is a skin care, shave or hair care product. In looking at recent sales data from SymphonyIRI Group, the grooming/
shaving scissors segment undoubtedly is a shining star among guys.


Sales of grooming/shaving scissors at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart) soared nearly 24% to almost $360 million during the 52 weeks ended April 15, according to SymphonyIRI Group.

Men’s body grooming has grown in popularity, especially among the younger generation, resulting in growth in the men’s grooming/shaving scissors segment at mass.

Men’s body grooming has grown in popularity, especially among the younger generation, resulting in growth in the men’s grooming/shaving scissors segment at mass. According to data from SymphonyIRI Group, the category grew nearly 26% 
to more than $103 million for the 12 weeks ended Jan. 22 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart). The segment will likely continue to grow as manufacturers develop new innovative products, such as Clio Designs’ Hypergroom Body Groomer, a triple blade, battery-operated body groomer.

SAN FRANCISCO — Slice, a maker of cutting tools for home, school, office and industry, has announced that it will debut at the upcoming Cosmoprof North America in Las Vegas a line of new beauty tools designed by architect and designer Michael Graves.
 
The initial 12 designs are the result of a two-year collaboration between Slice and Graves, and include six different models of tweezers, nail scissors, cuticle scissors, fingernail clippers, toenail clippers, a ceramic nail file and cosmetic pencil sharpener.

Judging by the numbers, the wobbly economy largely has benefited the men’s grooming segment.


As previously reported by Drug Store News, the economy has resulted in solid sales — and even a trading up — in such segments as grooming/scissors. For example, Wahl Clipper stated in late 2010 that its “shining star” has been its Lithium Ion grooming kit, priced at $39.99.


That trend appears to be continuing, as many grooming/shaving scissors are experiencing double-digit growth, according to the latest 
SymphonyIRI Group data.
