But he shouldn't go far. As a champion of health reform and consumer directed care, Burd will likely continue to be a pioneer in the healthcare space as companies begin to implement Obamacare in 2014.

WASHINGTON — Several retailers got top scores from a gay-rights organization for their efforts to prevent discrimination against and to include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.

The Human Rights Campaign released its 2013 Corporate Equality Index, which gives companies ratings of up to 100% based on their policies regarding LGBT employees and also released a buyer's guide for LGBT consumers.

Safeway's board will begin a search for a successor, and will consider both internal and external candidates for the job, the grocer stated.

"We are honored to reaffirm Safeway's support for our employees in the National Guard and Reserve," Burd said. "No other public service could be more important than providing support to our men and women in uniform."

Customers who earn gas rewards by shopping with their VonsClub Card at Vons stores and their ValuePlus Card at Pavilions stores will now be able to use their Rewards for up to 20 cents off per gallon when filling up at participating Chevron and Texaco branded locations in southern and central California.

Safeway has commenced its annual fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

TUCSON, Ariz., and PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway has commenced its annual fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Running through Sept. 3, the nationwide campaign gives customers the opportunity to contribute funds to MDA's "Make a Muscle, Make a Difference" program. Along with Safeway, Vons, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Dominick's and Carrs stores also will participate. Through its longstanding partnership, Safeway has raised more than $68.7 million for the MDA.
