Women, more often than men, reported that diabetes had a greater negative impact on their emotional outlook as well as their compliance with diet and exercise recommendations, according to a study released Thursday by Rite Aid and WebMD. The survey also found that women were more open than men to receiving tools to help them manage their diabetes.

Rite Aid has launched a new photo website that it said would make ordering prints, photo books, calendars and photo gifts easier, the retail pharmacy chain said Wednesday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals has elected Rite Aid EVP human resources Brian Fiala to its board of governors, Rite Aid said Tuesday.

The organization, which raises money for 170 children's hospitals across North America, elected Fiala, who began at Rite Aid in 2007 as EVP store operations and was named EVP human resources in July, at its recent annual board meeting in Orlando, Fla.

NEW YORK — Rite Aid and LifeScan kicked off the Rite Track Diabetes Tour in New York on Tuesday with a special appearance by celebrity chef Sam Talbot.

The tour, which runs through November — to mark American Diabetes Month — and December will visit more than 30 locations across the Northeast in a specially outfitted RV and offer free diabetes testing, resources and materials.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is collaborating with LifeScan to bring free diabetes testing, resources and materials to communities across the Northeast, the retail pharmacy chain said Friday.

The Rite Track Diabetes Tour will start in New York on Tuesday at 11 a.m. to mark American Diabetes Month. Chef Sam Talbot, who has Type 1 diabetes, will be aboard the bus to share his diabetes story and give away signed copies of his newly published cookbook, "The Sweet Life: Diabetes Without Boundaries."

Same-store sales at Rite Aid increased by 2.9% in October, compared with the same period last year, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Same-store sales at Rite Aid increased by 2.9% in October, compared with the same period last year, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

The increase included a 1.3% increase in same-store sales on the front end, as well as a 3.6% increase in pharmacy same-store sales, including a negative offset of about 160 basis points due to the introduction of new generic drugs.

Total sales for the month were nearly $2 billion, a 2.8% increase over October 2010's $1.9 billion.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Medicare Part D beneficiaries will be able to obtain hundreds of generic drugs without any deductible or co-pay under a new program offered by Rite Aid.

The retail pharmacy chain announced Tuesday that it had partnered with Envision Insurance Co. to offer a value-focused prescription drug plan for Medicare Part D Open Enrollment 2012. Rite Aid EnvisionRx Plus offers beneficiaries a plan with a $0 deductible and $0 co-pays, including during the coverage gap, also known as the donut hole.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Seven-in-10 Americans will celebrate Halloween, creating a $7 billion market, according to the National Retail Federation.

Retail pharmacy chain Rite Aid is addressing the demand with a wide selection of Halloween-related items, ranging from costumes and accessories to candy and decorations. This includes an online selection of 18,000 items.

The NRF predicts that a record 68.6% of Americans will celebrate Halloween on Oct. 31.

Open enrollment is beginning a month earlier than in previous years so that Medicare administrators can process plan choices before the new year, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The retail pharmacy chain announced that it received the 2011 LEADER Award in the loyalty category from the Shopper Technology Institute for its Wellness+ program. The institute presents the LEADER Awards for Excellence, sponsored by IBM, at its LEAD Marketing Conference. The award's name is an acronym for loyalty, engagement analytics and digital applications.

NEW YORK — Online retailer Amazon is testing robotic delivery lockers that people can use to receive items they order from the website, according to published reports.

Wired magazine reported online that the company was conducting the tests in Seattle and New York at Rite Aid and 7-Eleven stores, as well as other locations. The new service would allow people to select a locker location for delivery and then go to retrieve their items automatically using a six-digit code.

Through Oct. 31, customers can vote for their favorite pharmacist at RiteAid.com, through a mail-in nomination available at the store or by "liking" Rite Aid's Facebook page and using a special tab. Customers can share stories about the services their pharmacists provide and what makes them special.
