Everybody loves a comeback story, and it looks as though the retail pharmacy industry has one of its own in the making as Rite Aid’s latest earnings report showed another strong quarter for the Camp Hill, Pa.-based chain, which has been steadily growing its sales and narrowing its losses for several quarters already.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — A California health executive has been appointed to Rite Aid's board of directors, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

YONKERS, N.Y. — According to a recent poll that will appear in the June 2013 issue of ShopSmart, 56% of women do not take advantage of coupons and discount codes when it comes to purchasing makeup, skin care items and other beauty products.

"There's no reason to overpay or to miss a potential deal when buying beauty items," said Lisa Lee Feeman , editor-in-chief of ShopSmart. "Also consider store-brand beauty products — if you like them, the savings can be worthwhile in the long run."

BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York state's second-largest city has become the first market in which a majority of Rite Aid's stores have been converted to the Wellness format, the retail pharmacy chain announced Wednesday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is sending out a customized 38-ft. van to 50 stores around the country as part of a campaign to promote skin care.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid's same-store sales decreased 4% in April compared with April 2012 due to an earlier Easter and introductions of new generic drugs, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

The numbers released Thursday included a 3.5% decrease in sales on the front end and a 4.2% decrease in pharmacy sales, but the pharmacy figure included a 4.54% negative effect due to new generics. Same-store prescription count decreased by 0.2%.

Total sales for the month were $1.902 billion, a 4.6% decrease over April 2012's $1.993 billion.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu has appointed Rite Aid president, chairman and CEO John Standley to its board of directors, the supermarket operator said.

The company also announced the appointment of Cerberus Capital Management COO and general counsel Mark Neporent.

NEW YORK — Rite Aid board member Michel Coutu has resigned, effective Wednesday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Coutu's notification follows an announcement by The Jean Coutu Group Tuesday that it had sold 72.5 million Rite Aid shares, reducing its stake in the company to 11.7%.

In addition, board member and former chairman Mary Sammons notified the company Wednesday that she wouldn't seek reelection as a director at its annual shareholder meeting.
