SCHAUMBURG, Ill. Consumers shopping this Black Friday will spend in a “mindful manner,” according to a new Nielsen survey.

While 1-in-5 Americans confirmed they will shop on Black Friday, 61% of those surveyed said that they only planned to spend $100 to $500, and 60% of those surveyed will be armed with a shopping list. Other findings included:

  • Of the 19% of Americans planning to shop Black Friday, 10% will be shopping Black Friday for the first time;

NEW YORK Toys continue to dominate wish lists this holiday season, according to a new poll by Harris Interactive.

Of 3,084 U.S. adults surveyed online between Oct. 11 and 18, 53% of respondents said that they plan to purchase toys as gifts this year. What's more, nearly 3-out-of-4 consumers in a household with children (73%) said they will purchase toys as gifts this year.

 

Topping the toys list this year includes books (43%), video games (32%) and board games (32%). Top gift picks also include:

MINNEAPOLIS — Target reportedly is scaling back with a new small urban format.

Announced on Friday at Target Field in Minneapolis, the big-box retailer said it will develop stores that will be 60,000 sq. ft. to 100,000 sq. ft., compared with its typical 125,000-sq.-ft. to 180,000-sq.-ft. size.

The first smaller-scale store is slated to open in Seattle in 2012, followed by several other cities.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target announced that it has revamped a number of stores in its hometown. The company reported that more than 25 Target stores in the Twin Cities metro area have been redesigned to further deliver one-stop shopping convenience for guests.

Among the changes is an increased food selection that offers 90% of the categories found in a SuperTarget. Interactive displays and wider aisles were implemented to make the shopping experience more enjoyable, Target said.
