MIAMI — A dietary supplement that is designed to alleviate the symptoms of an enlarged prostate has arrived at GNC.

Urinozinc prostate formula now is available at all corporate-owned GNC Live Well stores and at select GNC franchise stores, the company said. Product ingredients for Urinozinc include saw palmetto extract, pumpkin seed, zinc, pygeum africanum, lycopene, magnesium, selenium, folic acid and vitamins B6, B12 and E.

Urinozinc currently is available for purchase at such retail locations as Bi-Lo, Duane Reade, H-E-B, Publix, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Walmart.

Retail spending for the month of May experienced a slight drop of 0.2% to $387.1 billion, though the advanced estimates noted that May sales were 7.7% higher than the year-ago period, the U.S. Census Bureau said Tuesday.

According to new research conducted by Packaged Facts, "Natural and Organic Foods and Beverages in the U.S., 3rd Edition," U.S. retail sales of natural and organic foods and beverages rose to nearly $39 billion in 2010, a 9% increase over 2009, and 63% higher than sales five years earlier.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Global Wellness on Tuesday initiated a voluntary nationwide recall of its Via Extreme ultimate sexual enhancer dietary supplement for men.

The product — a bottle containing six blue-colored capsules per package — was distributed throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada to Internet and retail consumers, the company reported.

Global Wellness is recalling only lots 809013 and 806030; the recall does not affect sales and distribution of Slim Extreme Gold and Gelslim, the company stated.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Almost 15 years after its debut, the original singing bird clock is being relaunched by Mark Feldstein & Associates, the company announced.

The clock, which features images and 12 songs — one at the top of each hour — from 12 songbirds in North America, is available for a limited time to celebrate its upcoming 15th anniversary in 2012. MFA discontinued the original singing bird clock in 2006 after coming out with another version licensed by the National Audubon Society a few years earlier, the company said.

The campaign, which will last through July 26, will include free informational guides in all the chain’s stores and online, as well as promotions for skin care products and a national tour featuring free full-body skin cancer screenings by local dermatologists and advice from Rite Aid pharmacists.

Same-store sales at Rite Aid increased by 1.3% in May, compared with the year-ago period, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Same-store sales at Rite Aid increased by 1.3% in May, compared with the year-ago period, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

Reporting sales for the five-week period that ended May 28, Rite Aid said front-end same-store sales increased 1.8%, while same-store sales in the pharmacy increased by 1%, including a 129-basis-point offset due to introductions of new generic drugs. Prescription count increased 0.1%.

Total drug store sales during the period were nearly $2.5 billion, a 1% increase over $2.45 billion in May 2010.
