Cardinal Health and McKesson separately announced the renewal of their pharmaceutical distribution agreements with CVS Caremark.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Cardinal Health and McKesson separately announced the renewal of their pharmaceutical distribution agreements with CVS Caremark.

Under Cardinal Health’s renewed agreement, the wholesaler stated that it will supply pharmaceuticals to a network of CVS Caremark's retail pharmacies and distribution centers through mid-2016. The stores and distribution centers serviced under the new arrangement are essentially the same as those serviced in the prior arrangement.

Pharmacy Choice and Access Now said it was encouraging states to expand the types of vaccines that pharmacists can administer.

According to the report, Walgreens hired Jones Lang LaSalle to sell the 38-acre campus, which it would lease back for 10 years.

NEW YORK — Watertree Health has hired former NBA champion John Salley to market its free prescription discount cards, the company said.

Salley, who maintains a vegan diet, is a health and wellness advocate and has appeared in film and television. Watertree provides prescription discount cards and distributes them to anyone who needs help paying for medicines. According to the company, more than 100 million Americans don't have full prescription coverage.

SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets on Thursday announced it would invest $135 million in its 2013 capital expenditure program, an 8% increase compared to the year prior. 

“To position our company for continued growth, we have made record investments in our store base,” Jonathan Weis, Weis Market's vice chairman, told shareholders during the grocer's annual meeting held here. In 2013, the company is planning 37 major projects, including four new stores, 15 major remodels and 17 remodels.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, a private foundation created by CVS Caremark Corporation has announced the recipients of the “Innovations in Community Health” grants, which have been awarded to community health centers nationwide through a partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers.

The grants will help community health centers increase access to health care and produce better health outcomes while reducing costs for patients and healthcare systems.

Dollar General announced it would match the $2,000 donation that NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Brian Vickers made to Clot Connect. Vickers was diagnosed in early 2010 with blood clots that forced him to miss the remainder of the season and worked with University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill physicians and Clot Connect to make informed decisions on his healthcare.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu posted sales of $3.89 billion and a loss of $1.41 billion in fourth quarter 2013, the company said Wednesday.

That result compared with sales of $3.98 billion and a loss of $424 million in fourth quarter 2012.

For the fiscal year, sales were $17.1 billion, compared with $17.3 billion in fiscal year 2012, while the company incurred a loss of $1.46 billion, compared with a $1.04 billion loss the year before.

CouponCabin released results of a survey Wednesday finding that 20% of smartphone owners have visited a store after receiving notification that specials, coupons or deals were available nearby. The online survey, conducted between Feb. 28 and March 4, polled 2,219 adults, including 1,096 smartphone owners.

NEWARK, N.J. — Inergetics will distribute its Bikini Ready Weight Loss Lifestyle and SlimTrim diet brands through a Midwestern supermarket-pharmacy chain, the company said Tuesday.

Inergetics said the products had gained initial distribution with Hy-Vee, based in West Des Moines, Iowa.

The company said it hoped to increase distribution with Hy-Vee in the near term.

ESI said the country wasted $418 billion on bad medication-related decisions, including $55.8 billion spent on higher-priced medications when cheaper alternatives were available; and $269.4 billion went to expenses related to poor medication adherence.

RadioShack has ended its mobile phone partnership with Target amid slumping sales, the electronics store chain said.

FORT WORTH, Texas — RadioShack Corp. has ended its mobile phone partnership with Target Corp. amid slumping sales, the electronics store chain said Tuesday.

RadioShack said it had stopped operating its Target Mobile centers before the end of last month. The company had operated mobile phone kiosks inside Target stores. The company posted first quarter 2013 quarter sales of $849 million and a loss of $43 million, compared with $913 million last year and a loss of $8 million.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores' charitable arm has awarded $230,000 in scholarships to pharmacy students, the organization said.

ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores' charitable arm has awarded $230,000 in scholarships to pharmacy students, the organization said Tuesday.

The NACDS Foundation said it gave awards ranging from $10,000 to $40,000 to pharmacy schools' scholarship funds through its Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program. The awards will provide financial assistance to students working toward doctor of pharmacy degrees.

That runner, it turns out, is 27-year-old Costco Wholesale employee Jeff Bauman of New Hampshire. Following reports that Bauman was uninsured, based on comments a relative had made to a reporter, Costco took to Twitter to remind readers that he does, in fact, have insurance through the company.
