CVS Caremark’s MinuteClinic on Thursday officially announced the opening of its first walk-in medical clinic in Hawaii at the Longs Drug store on South King Street in Honolulu near the University of Hawaii, Manoa.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark’s MinuteClinic on Thursday officially announced the opening of its first walk-in medical clinic in Hawaii at the Longs Drug store on South King Street in Honolulu near the University of Hawaii, Manoa.

It is the first of seven MinuteClinic locations to open inside select Longs Drug stores on Oahu in the next two weeks. Additional clinics will serve patients in Aiea, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Kaneohe, Kapolei and Waialae, the company stated.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that the first MinuteClinic in Hawaii will open at the Moiliili store in Honolulu. On Sept. 30, locations in Kahala, Aiea, Kapolei, Hawaii Kai, Kaneohe and Kailua are scheduled to open.

With the new opening, there are now 27 MinuteClinic locations in Virginia. The additional clinic locations slated to open in September and October will be in Hollins, Lynchburg, Radford, Roanoke and Salem.

PITTSBURGH — A consumer group is urging the Pennsylvania state legislature to increase access to vaccines for children and teenagers.

Pharmacy Choice and Access Now said Wednesday it was encouraging the Pennsylvania General Assembly to support House Bill 776, which would pharmacists to help increase immunization rates among children ages 7 years and older, with parental consent. The bill, sponsored by Republican state Rep. Seth Grove, has received support from educators, healthcare professionals and students.

Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant, one of the supermarket banners owned by Ahold USA, said the clinic, operated under partnership with Aria Health FastCare, provides customers with convenient and affordable care for treating a variety of common illnesses, and offers preventive health care.

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — At least one company making rapid influenza tests agrees with proposed new standards from the Food and Drug Administration.

BD said Monday that it would support the FDA's proposal to reclassify rapid influenza tests as Class II devices. They are currently considered Class I, and the new classification would hold them to higher performance standards in order to give healthcare providers criteria for evaluating the tests they use.

LEVITTOWN, Pa. — Giant Food Stores will stage the grand opening of a new in-store health clinic at one of its stores Tuesday, the Ahold USA banner said Friday.

Giant, based in Carlisle, Pa., is partnering with Aria Health FastCare on the clinic, providing the space while Aria provides the staff. The clinic will be the fourth. Lancaster, Pa., General Hospital is also partnering with Giant to operate another clinic.

According to a new survey from CVS/pharmacy, less than half of those surveyed (46%) were more likely to get a flu shot this year following last season's late flu outbreak. However, many more (59%) said they consider it a social responsibility to get the flu shot every year in order to keep their community healthy and minimize the spread of the influenza virus.

The Children's Health Fund and Verizon Foundation announced the launch of the first "telemedicine clinics on wheels," connecting children to specialists at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. MinuteClinic has made a deal with a Tennessee healthcare system to expand clinics in three counties in the state, the CVS Caremark clinics division said Wednesday.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic has made a deal with a Tennessee healthcare system to expand clinics in three counties in the state, the CVS Caremark clinics division said Wednesday.

MinuteClinic has a partnership with Parkridge Health System, itself a division of HCA/TriStar, to have Parkridge physicians serve as medical directors for seven walk-in clinics. The clinics operate inside CVS stores in Chattanooga, Hixson and Signal Mountain, Tenn., as well as a new location in Cleveland, Tenn., which opened last week.
